Not even 50% faster then a non overclocked 980ti. LAME!!!! I fail to see 60% in anything Nvidia. We all know Pascal=Maxwell shrunken.

Just keeping this here as a Rip pc gamers, I really don't see Vega coming close to Pascal/Maxwell they are just too far behind Nvidia will kick their asses to the consoles before Async becomes a thing. Very little hopes for Vega.

And they called it "the ultimate experience" or some shit. Not a lot of marketing, but still enough to hype someone. Why would I be expected to throw a waterblock in my 1200+ gpu to achieve my 60 fps? That's scammy. But damn it, if I were nvidia, I'd do the exact same thing.

Don't know... according to some rumours nvidia will have Volta quite soon, while Vega is still going to be released in Q1 2017 as far as I know. I see little point of using lots of the "good" chips for consumer products instead of enterprise/workstation ones

Nope, right after GTC as the rumors go. I suspect Nvidia planned for a 10nm delay and prepared a 16nm variant of Volta way ahead of time. The great thing (for Nvidia) is that its R&D costs get cut down to release multiple generations.

Screw perf/core (although it has gone up since the 290x), you don't need a lot of it when you have (rumored) 6144 cores.

what AMD has done, is catch up to perf per watt in one generation. This is HUGE.

 

The reason it is huge is not for people on this forum, basically enthusiasts, but for OEM sales. Dell, Alienware, HP, Lenovo ETC they want to put as CHEAP as possible powersupplies and cooling. And if you put a power hungry hot beast inside of the OEM build, then the OEM itself has to spend money out of its own pocket.

 

The cheaper the parts, the higher the margin, the happier the OEM. Fact is, the wast wast wast majority of AMD and Nvidia GPUs are sold through boutique "pre-builts" or OEM "off the shelf" units. Standalone "GPU in a box" sales are actually VERY tiny compared to the millions of units that DELL and other OEMs sell. This is why performance per watt is important.

 

You must also understand that Polaris, from the moment it was created, it was made for mainstream. There is no "large polaris". It was designed around the 200$ price range. This is reflected in the die size, performance numbers nad power draw. It was NEVER meant to compete with the 1070 and 1080 from Nvidia, which is by all means "high end" cards. So comparing its perf per watt to a 1070 or 1080 is asinine. It has no basis in reality and anyone who does it is a massive retard and or Nvidia shill.

 

Pascal is impressive in many ways, but it is an even greater disappointment then Polaris, mainly because it barely offers anything "new" that we didnt expect. Sure a few new features are nice. The improved perf per watt is nice, but nothing out of the extraordinairy based on this being a double node shrink. Performance increase is less then "anticipated", especially considering we expected a double node shrink worth of perf increase.

 

The only impressive with these 1st gen 16nm products is the fact that the mainstream market didnt get shafted by either side. Both AMD and Nvidia are actually offering a substantial performance boost for the mainstream market.... this is a welcome change for once.

 

The real interesting improvements with 16nm wont show before Volta/Vega.

I know about that. Vega 11 is rumored to have 6144 cores, while vega 10 is rumored to have 4096. I bet that Vega 10 will be quite a hit at the 1080.

Same performance and power consumption as a late 2014 28nm card. I don't call it huge, since Fiji was already a decent upgrade in terms of perf/W compared to Hawaii

And they called it "the ultimate experience" or some shit. Not a lot of marketing, but still enough to hype someone. Why would I be expected to throw a waterblock in my 1200+ gpu to achieve my 60 fps? That's scammy. But damn it, if I were nvidia, I'd do the exact same thing.

They literally didn't do anything for announce press... They threw it on a friggin blog... 

 

They aren't even marketing it for gamers... It's supposed to be a int8 card first and foremost.

Its almost as if you are suggesting the card is worse than a 1080 in it's current config...

 

Besides, this literally is nothing new. Aftermarket 290s easily outperformed 300 dollar more reference 290x as soon as they were released, aftermarket 980ti's squeezed past the 350 dollar more reference Titan X (M), etc etc.

I'm under the impression that the Titan cards where enver for gaming on. Fore development. Still their performance is really good. If you want or need that performance then that's the price but if not then wait for the 1080Ti.

I don't know about DOA's, but there are certainly going to be alot of people out there putting titans on water and wouldn't mind making a few bucks on their coolers. I don't know if they would have the same mounting screw holes though.

Pascal Cards higher than the 1060 support up to 4-way SLI, but, Nvidia has admitted what many of us already knew: scaling beyond 2 cards sucks. So, it doubled the bandwidth of the bridge if you were willing to settle on 2-way.

The reason it is huge is not for people on this forum, basically enthusiasts, but for OEM sales. Dell, Alienware, HP, Lenovo ETC they want to put as CHEAP as possible powersupplies and cooling. And if you put a power hungry hot beast inside of the OEM build, then the OEM itself has to spend money out of its own pocket.

 

The cheaper the parts, the higher the margin, the happier the OEM. Fact is, the wast wast wast majority of AMD and Nvidia GPUs are sold through boutique "pre-builts" or OEM "off the shelf" units. Standalone "GPU in a box" sales are actually VERY tiny compared to the millions of units that DELL and other OEMs sell. This is why performance per watt is important.

 

You must also understand that Polaris, from the moment it was created, it was made for mainstream. There is no "large polaris". It was designed around the 200$ price range. This is reflected in the die size, performance numbers nad power draw. It was NEVER meant to compete with the 1070 and 1080 from Nvidia, which is by all means "high end" cards. So comparing its perf per watt to a 1070 or 1080 is asinine. It has no basis in reality and anyone who does it is a massive retard and or Nvidia shill.

 

Pascal is impressive in many ways, but it is an even greater disappointment then Polaris, mainly because it barely offers anything "new" that we didnt expect. Sure a few new features are nice. The improved perf per watt is nice, but nothing out of the extraordinairy based on this being a double node shrink. Performance increase is less then "anticipated", especially considering we expected a double node shrink worth of perf increase.

 

The only impressive with these 1st gen 16nm products is the fact that the mainstream market didnt get shafted by either side. Both AMD and Nvidia are actually offering a substantial performance boost for the mainstream market.... this is a welcome change for once.

 

The real interesting improvements with 16nm wont show before Volta/Vega.

 

No it hasn't. The Rx 480 uses way more power than the 1060 just to match its performance.

 

Then OEMs will go for the 1060 over the Rx 480. It's cool as a cucumber, and Nvidia offers good bulk deals.

 

It's not really a double node shrink. It's 20nm with FinFET transistors and a couple little trimmings. So is Samsung/GloFo 14nmFF.

 

Eh, I think the improvements will show up over time, even without Nvidia "gimping" Maxwell.
