Maybe I'm just more used to Double Precision being what would be wanted from a card and the Titan XP is lacking, half precision just doesn't seem like something that would be used in business applications. I mean yes FP16 is used for deep learning but does that justify the cost? Maybe I'm looking at this from the wrong perspective.

I'm a computer science student looking to work with facial recognition software, I'm in Vegas after all LOL. Half precision is paramount.

Well then in that case I admit that I was wrong on this fact, thanks for filling in my knowledge gaps there. I guess the price is justified for some but I can see why people like me who look in with their gamer glasses on would say its a bad deal. Basically the general consumer would see this as a bad buy but then again I guess in all honesty that's not really who the Titan XP is aimed at primarily.

xD You realize you would tell someone to get a 1080 if they had a 4k monitor, right? But the 1060 is better price to performance, so why wouldn't you advise a 1060 for 4k?

Eh for the computation side of things, absolutely knock yourself out. For 4K gaming, though, when dual 1080s costs the same and performs this much better I'm still inclined to recommend it... or dual 1070s for two thirds of the price.

I'm not sure where you would get this information nor mention this random stuff when it is off topic. Your unwarranted assumptions have no effect when we all know you're really the blind Titan sucker ?

Dual 1080s do not cost the same, add in a bridge and you're hundreds more than the Titan XP. Try this, price two 1080s that you would want in SLI and a HB bridge to take advantage of the SLI config. Now remember that SLI only works in games that support SLI, which is less than half my Steam library. I checked.

I don't care about the HB bridge. It only seems to make a difference in a very marginal handful of games (and at higher resolutions than 4K), and so far it seems to have the same effect as two soft bridges. I'd just get an extra one of those, but so far am just using the one flexible bridge.

 

And the GTX 1080 price seems to have settled around £579. This makes two of them £1158. It remains to be seen what their USD to GBP conversion ends up being like, but I'm not optimistic.

 

Thirdly, what kind of niche indie games fill your steam library where half of your games don't support SLI? I haven't encountered a game that hasn't supported it since I was still using my dual GTX 580s. Unless you count the Dx 12 games that are in the process of being patched to support the various multi-adaptor modes, or using the technicality that these modes are not technically SLI or Crossfire.

Thirdly, what kind of niche indie steam library where half of your games don't support SLI? I haven't encountered a game that hasn't supported it since I was still using my dual GTX 580s. Unless you count the Dx 12 games that are in the process of being patched to support the various multi-adaptor modes, or using the technicality that these modes are not technically SLI or Crossfire.

The HB bride makes a pretty big difference, and here in the states the cheapest 1080 is 650us for the Aero. And I'm not throwing 1300us down on the cheapest card available. So that might be regional. But heres a comparison the of HB bridge and a flex bridge.

Well they aren't going to hire some kid at home with a Titan. The kids are most likely going to be in college with access to Tesla's, GRID cards, and quadros. Until we see actual gameplay I say it is over priced. If it was $999 then no.

I might end up getting one at some point, but it would only ever be for aesthetic reasons. I'm not expecting it to have any impact whatsoever over having two ribbon cables.

Again. Why would I put two cheap flex bridges in an enthusiasts build? I'm a starving student but I have my pride xD You simply cant argue multi card configs with the new APIs not offering support. Just not an argument to have I'm afraid. One card is always the better option.

As long as you understand that you are paying for it to look pretty, and not be anything like the necessity you are claiming. It's the PC equivalent of painting stripes on it at this point.

 

And the new APIs support multi-GPU inherently, unlike the old ones. Multi-GPU scaling is much better than previously, as well, with upwards of 80%. They even support both AFR and SFR which hasn't been a choice available to you for years so I'm not sure where you're getting this idea that Dx12 and Vulkan don't support explicit and implicit multi-adaptor.

And the new APIs support multi-GPU inherently, unlike the old ones. Multi-GPU scaling is much better than previously, as well, with upwards of 80%. They even support both AFR and SFR which hasn't been a choice available to you for years so I'm not sure where you're getting this idea that Dx12 and Vulkan don't support explicit and implicit multi-adaptor.

The support is not there.
