AMD - Whats better, APU or FX CPU for gaming?

Simply put, whats better, AMD APU for gaming or the FX for gaming? I've not looked at AMD for a while so I don't know whats to offer!

I do believe AMD will get better over the next year or so for their CPU's! Please help!!!

depends on what price range. and if you will be getting a dedicated gpu. APUs don't have high end stuff yet.

Okay, so the FX series chips are the ones to go for, is there a highly recommended chip to pick? I'm after something with native 8 core technology and something thats got serious power (bang for buck)

you forgot phenom and athlon :) both deliver similar performance and overclockability as APUs, and you can pair it with amd low end GPUs like 7750 for 50$ ( when sales on pcpartpicker, currently it sits on 63$) or 7770 for 80$. For example 6800k is around 130$ if i am not wrong, and if you pair 750k ( 80$ ) and 7750 ( 50$ ) you get much more power and flexibility for same price.

5800k is still p/p holder on the apu side.  until kaveri :)

but yea, if you can afford FX-6300, its the cpu to go for. next p/p is 8320.

I agree with Hunter, get an AMD FX-8320 FX-Series Black Edition. Do not, I repeat, do not get an APU for gaming. They are terrible processors for gaming purposes. They are great for HTPC's and home NAS devices but not gaming PC's

I posted on AMD's wall and they said the FX8350 is the one to go for. I'll ofcourse overclock it ;) I don't have a H100 for nothing!!! Any idea how far the overclocks can go on  them?

I managed to get my dads 8150 to 5.4ghz so I think that a 8350 will go further.

5.4GHz, thats something I cant turn down!!! Was that really pushing it or not even trying?

APU's are the best for integrated graphics solutions. I also think that with the next two generations APU's will achieve the performance of an 8350. The A10-6800K performs about the same as an FX-6300. AMD is really dedicated to APU's and GPU's right now so I expect them to run away with it in due time. But currently the 9590 is the fastest AMD CPU. Also it depends on what your usage case scenario. If you want a cheap build that can run things on medium, at 1080P the A10-6800K is a fantastic choice. Just make sure you get lots of fast memory with a low CAS latency and you should be able to get good framerates. Logan has seen 15 frames better with good memory.

AMD A10-6800K:

AMD FX-8350

AMD 9590(Not many reviews because it is an OC'd 8350)

I think the FX is better right now but i have a feeling that will change in the future.

FX 8350 is the best option.

H100 works fine with FX8350 with standard clock... and up-to 5Ghz starts to get very loud (fans fun full at the slightest hint of load)

You wont get 5.4, well not stable and defiantly not under 1.5V, I have overclocked over 10 FX8350 systems now and your looking at min 4.7 Ghz - 4.8Ghz being the ave you can get with voltages under 1.5v...

I would go with the 8320 and overclock it.

I would say the best bang for buck CPU is definitely the FX 8320, it's the best $150 performer bar none.
And if you consider overclocking, it's even faster than the $229-$219 chips from intel.

If you have a limited budget go for the 8320 & spend more on the cooling, if you have a slightly higher budget then an 8350 might make more sense.

I personally have an FX 8320, overclocked to 4.44Ghz on stock voltage, cooled by a Noctua NH-C14, bought that cooler mainly for looks.
