So the prices are really interesting these just launched on wootware.co.za in South Africa. Taking into account shipping and taxes (There is plenty) and the exchange rate you can get an G1 of Strix GTX1060 for ZAR6999 (USD486 +/-) and the cheapest RX480 is ZA6099 (USD424 +/-) That is about and a 60 dollar delta once we have benchmarks out it will be interesting to see the price vs performance.

 

Please the exchange rate used is the current spot. Also before starting the whole MSRP chain that MSRP is normally US based and does not take into account shipping cost or taxes.

Dell was having a $600 off sale for the fully specced out model, so I decided to get it :P

 

-Crapbook

Fully specced out early 2013 Macbook "pro" with gt 650m and constant 105c temperature on the CPU (GPU is 80-90C) when doing anything intensive...

A 2013 laptop with a regular sized battery still has better battery life than a 2017 laptop with a massive battery! I think this is a testament to apple's ability at making laptops, or maybe how little CPU technology has improved even 4+ years later (at least, until the recent introduction of 15W 4 core CPUs). Anyway, I'm never going to get a 35W CPU laptop again unless battery technology becomes ~5x better than as it is in 2018.

Apple knows how to make proper consumer-grade laptops (they don't know how to make pro laptops though). I guess this mostly software power efficiency related, but getting a mac makes perfect sense if you want a portable/powerful laptop that can do anything you want it to with great battery life.

Given that the 1070/1080 cost way, way over MSRP is Europe, I don't think I'll be cancelling my Sapphire NITRO RX 480 pre-order anytime soon :P

1060 is around £220 to £280 what the 970 price was last year.

what a surprise nvidia beating amd at DX 11.... nothing new.... DX 12, vulkan will be a different story.... + with more driver updates the gap will close....

The best part is its still more expensive than a 970 or even secondhand 980.

In Norway the prices are from 280 EUR and up obviously.. But while the 1060 performance is good, I don't see the value in it, unless you know for a fact you'll never run with 2 graphic cards in your system, for an ITX build, it would be simply amazing

Considering it's a new product, 279€ doesn't sound too bad, if there are actually custom cards launched at that price. The RX 480 4GB currently is sold for  220€ and the cheapest 8GB version for 269€ here in Germany though.
