Will my gtx1070 bottleneck the i5-6600K?

Not my topic, it's xlee's. I agree, his rig is good, and he'll have a good experience, and I helped him to get the best experience possible.  However, when Don was responding, it was about have the BEST experience possible, which is with an i7.  Not that his experience won't be good, but that it could possibly be better in some instances.  I'm sure @xLee will be great, and enjoy his new pc. That still doesn't invalidate the fact that it could be a little better. I understand that you are correct in saying he will only see these instances in extreme circumstances, but when you're trying to run 144hz those come up a little more often. I discussed the ways to mitigate that with xlee in the cases it shows up, and so I have no doubt he'll have a great time with the i5.  But the cases exist where there is stuttering from running out of cpu. I have an i7, and I'll be getting a 1070 in the mail today, so no jealousy on this front.

It depends on the game - but the higher the settings the more often it will happen.

And just to refresh my memory :D This stutter is purely caused because of the CPU and the CPU only am I right?

It's like this. The CPU hits it's maximum and the GPU has to wait for it and thus keeps the same frame on screen for more than it should. Or what we call stuttering.

No, not always. Sometimes it's the RAM and/or CPU. RAM speed is just as important as your CPU and GPU at times in some games.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

RAM that I ordered is a Kingston HyperX 2x8GB 2666mhz

Okay! But a quick question. Will I get a full chargeback from amazon for my cpu if I test it first, see if it stutters, and then send it back?

If you have a Z170 motherboard and I have to assume you do, overclock it as high as it will go.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

Yeah, might consider doing that. But I guess the best thing is just to test everything first. Maybe I wont have stutter or tearing after all :D

Only overclock one thing at a time. When overclocking RAM you almost have to test in game so don't test in online games. I made that mistake and got called a Disco...

Monitor your GPU usage via AB. If it's not hitting 100% then you are suffering a bottleneck

Excuse me, but what is AB?

And what game do you suggest for me to test in? Is making a botgame in csgo good enough?

MSI afterburner, an overclocking/monitoring software you can download for free.

CS:GO is a CPU-intensive game. EVen my i5 bottlenecks a substantially weaker 280 there. Try GTA V

I don't have that game on Steam.. Maybe I should try Doom?

I have actually seen a video, where the gpu usage of a 1070 was 80-85% in pair with a i5-6600k.

Do you consider that as big bottleneck?

Well - that means the person is getting 15-20% less performance than he paid for

You would much rather have it the other way around, with the gpu @ 100%, and cpu @ 80%.  CPU bottleneck causes a much more noticeable stutter than a gpu bottleneck, and the extra cpu gives you room to have something run in the background without performance taking a nosedive.

Also, keep in mind that we are in no way saying the 6600K is a bad cpu, or that you won't have a great experience with it.  Just that you are asking for a perfectly smooth experience, and you'll get much closer to that with an i7.

I can link you the video, the testing starts around 3:45. (It's in Russian btw) You can see the graphs in the top left corner.

And, he was using a founders 1070.

Unlike me, I ordered the gigabyte g1 Gaming 1070.
