Something seems to be wrong with either my L5640 or my board. It doesn't allow me to raise the BCLK manually, I can only raise it using the hardware switches on the board. Well, 3.4 GHz out of a 2.26 GHz chip isn't terrible, but still kinda disappointing...

I'll probably give my e5640 another run now, as I'm already switch CPU's back and forth anyways...

Well, I found the issue (broken Bios battery); managed to overclock it now.

PxzwRYn.jpg

From 2.26 to 4.09 - I wanted more, but I crash to where I need to reset the CMOS if I go with a higher BCLK. I'll try a bit more (I would, off course, really like a 100% overclock :D)

Also managed to push my e5620 a bit (40 MHz lol) further:

0.9v VTT sounds quite high? how long have you ran that without issues? mines about 0.65v stock from memory

Actually, after verifying, I'm only running ~.6v on each DDR side.

Truthfully, I haven't exactly determined highs for x299 yet. What do you run on VTT? I'll give it a shot. Thanks

Interesting.

On my Asrock X299 Taichi HWmonitor seems to report VTT as a 'combined' value - so it I run 700mv on each VTT setting in BIOS HWmonitor will report as 1.4v

I notice yours looks very different...

Yeah, in order to see VTT in Windows, I have to use Asus AI Suite.  I'm hoping that a HWinfo64 update is coming soon, which can show more of the Apex's unreported sensors.

You've got me missing my 5960x.  I need to get the z270 pulled so that I can put the 5960x in that loop.  I think I'm done with mainstream chips for a while.

indeed i likes the 5960x. perfect chip for vantage and 3d11 :D

until 8 core coffee lake and z390 :P

i was hoping everyone on hwbot would jump on the 8700k so i could get a cheap apex or z170m ocf for 7350k, but there are a whole 6 subs even for cinebench xD looks like everyone is waiting till jan or cant find stock.

There is not a single benchmark done for coffe lake on this forum, so I'm assuming people can't even get those CPUs.

I have a buddy with a couple of them but he's charging $420 a piece. At that price, I'd rather wait until silicon lottery gets some bins in stock.

People need to start buying those CPUs somehow and start posting benchmarks + temperature results so I can decide if I want coffe lake or not xD

Not sure why people are paying that much for it.

Even if I find from reviews and benchmarks that I want to have this CPU, I will still wait few months for stock to arrive and prices to decrease.

I'm interested in i5 8600k, but I won't be paying more than 250€ for it. Right now it's selling for 270€ but no stock.

Me neither. I'll only pay that for a delidded bin.

I saw review of i5 8600k, and it was running at 80°C max at 5,2GHz overclock. If that's the case with all chips, there is no need to delid for me, since I'm only hoping to get 5GHz on all cores, so temps should be even lower.

I tend to go overkill, lol. I've had every CPU I've ran for years now delidded.

Something's wrong. That's 7 points behind my X6850 at stock (3GHz).
Edit: Funnily enough, it also has 6GB of RAM paired with it (the motherboard has a lot of problems with anything not certified-even DDR2 667)

After looking back to the results of my Xeon at 4.2GHz, I still want to know what the designers of Bulldozer were smoking.

The i5-8600K is actually a very interesting chip to me. I'd like to see how it compares to my 7700K, because even though it has less threads, it might make up the performance with physical cores.
