The i5-8600K is actually a very interesting chip to me. I'd like to see how it compares to my 7700K, because even though it has less threads, it might make up the performance with physical cores.

That's exactly what I'm hoping for. Games will put workload only on strong physical cores, and maybe my games will run smother because of that.

Something's wrong. That's 7 points behind my X6850 at stock (3GHz).
Edit: Funnily enough, it also has 6GB of RAM paired with it (the motherboard has a lot of problems with anything not certified-even DDR2 667)

im using ddr3 1666mhz

I set my overclock down to my normal 4.5ghz oc and got an increase in my cb score... at 4.9ghz it was 282cb and at 4.5 it was 318cb... i guess it was unstable

i should do that speed at about 1.35v or maybe 1.4v. 99% of fx chips scale the same.

@Cookybiscuit may I ask what kind of cooler were you using, and what temperatures did you get on CPU cores?

Delided or not?

Phanteks PH-TC14PE, not delidded. Cinebench doesn't seem to make much heat, it hits about 85C max maybe on the multicore test, in other more stressful tests (and some gaming loads) it's hitting 100C easily and that's just at the 4.8GHz I actually use it at. In the single core test I had four cores disabled so it was running at about 65C max. Currently waiting on my delid tool to come in the post.

No.  Jury still out on if I'm going to get one.  I stopped using my 7700k about a half a year ago and it's just been sitting around.  I'm not sure that the 8700k would get much more use.

100°C at 4,8GHz only ... guess I will have to buy delided 8600k if I don't want to have another 4790k disaster xD

Hey, I just thought of something.  Why do I need a 8700k, when I can just disable cores and make my 7900x one when needed?  Save it as a profile and just load it when needed.  Looks pretty close to @Cookybiscuit's 8700k.  :D
