Rx 480 or 1070 for 1440p?

oo2k15

So gtx 1080 is out of my price ranged almost $1k CAD here. So going with either Rx 480 or gtx 1070. So I want to hit that sweet spot of 1440p. Which card should I go for?

rx 480 $350 CAD

gtx 1070 $590 CAD

The setup I'll be going with http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/86NyXH

RX 480

The 480 can barely even do ultra settings at 1080p 60fps

A 1070 is a MUCH better choice for 1440p

Even a 1070, almost twice as powerful as a 480, cant do 1440p 144Hz

Aren't these 2 cards on completely different price points? like cant you almost buy 2 480s for the price of one 1070? that alone should tell you which one is better...

When in doubt, re-format.

The 1070 will bottleneck hard with that i3.

The cheapest skylake chip I can find. I'm making a path for upgrade down the road. That's why I went with z170 mobo also. I'll be upgrading to Kabylake when it comes out.

Kaby will have features you can only use on the new motherboards. Sorry. Not even confirmed that Kaby will work with a Skylake motherboard.

GTX 1070 is no brainer here.

RX 480 will strugle with 60 fps at 1080p ultra settings.

For 1440p 144Hz, even GTX 1080 will strugle with that.

GTX 1070 is new king for 1440p ultra settings 60fps.

if you're ok with the higher price, then most definitely 1070

although I'd look into 980ti, heavily overclocked 980ti might happen to be cheaper and it will outperform

Theres no Reason you should be paying $590 for a 1070, I got mine for $419... If you want to game at 1440p, go with the 1070. If you want to game at 1080p, Go with the RX480. Oh and if you go with a 1070 make sure to get at least a I5 so you have minor to no bottleneck, thats something you dont have to worry about if you get the RX 480.

Is this even a question? If you have more money to spend, you would ofc spend on an expensive product, wouldn't you?

L tell me where you got it for $419 I'll buy one at that price. i5 is almost $100 more though. :/ Btw this is all in CAD.

I game on a gtx 750ti (after sending my defective gtx 970 back and deciding that it is a rip off for that price) and i would say the 480 should be more than enough, especially with that price difference, down the line you could add another 480, or use the remaining money to upgrade your CPU since the CPU might cause bottlenecking issues with that resolution, obviously if you have money to waste though go for the 1070.

Why are you giving 2 options at completely different leagues?

Of course people will go with 1070, because it is almost 2 times faster than 480.

Your question would make more sense had it was " rx480 or gtx970", because these are in the same league of performance.

It will show you when the 1070s are stock in real time and the price so you can get a good deal and know whats in stock right now.

1070, not even a competition. The 480 will be just enough for 1440 while the 1070 will be enough for some time.

He may be better off with an RX 480 considering the rest of his setup though.

No, not even close. I ran a 980ti with a 1080p monitor for months while I saved up for a 1440 monitor. 9 time out of 10 you're upgrading past your current set up if you're doing it right. That's how you go from a low end set up top a high end set up. The 480 is only as powerful as a 970, and the 1060 will most likely beat it as well. Getting the 1070 means they have room to grow elsewhere. build for where you want to be, not where you are.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

Unless you consider that he hasn't any of those components yet, he said he's going to buy his i3 and so on.

He won't upgrade his cpu for a while since he is going to buy it
