HP is making the ultimate smartphone. Meet, the Elite X3

After what seems like an eternity, HP is finally releasing their ultimate business phone, the Elite X3.

 

 

 

That's right. It's a Windows Phone.

 

Because it features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 (more on specs later) it supports Continuum as shown in the photo above.

 

Also, it's a huge phone. 

 

Specs are as follows:

4GB LPDDR4 RAM

Snapdragon 820

5.96" 2560x1440 Display

4150mAh Lithium Ion Battery

64GB Internal Storage

 

It is expected to cost 699 Euros and as such this will be the most expensive Windows Phone ever made.

The event with which this product will be shown off is expected to be September 2016.

The screen size of HP Elite X3 is a massive 5.96-inch QHD display, and that screen size alone has allowed HP to incorporate a 4,150mAh cell inside.

 

Despite featuring 64GB of internal storage, HP Elite X3 provides the user with massive amounts of storage expansion options with a MicroSD card slot that can support cards up to 2TB. A 16MP rear shooter will ensure footage and image capture will be smooth as butter and since this is a flagship offering, we expect that that it will also be able to capture 4K videos very easily.

damn, at 6" it's almost a tablet. Dunno if this one will be for me, I like the idea but it's huge. My Nexus 4/Lumia 535 are already kinda too big for me imo, I'd prefer something iPhone 5S size...

I'll second those who say the size is a bit of a turn off. My Lumia 830 is just about perfect, at 5". Even at 5.5", that's pushing it for me. 6" is likely too large for a phone. But I'd have to see it and feel it in my hands to say for sure.

 

Everything else about it sounds good though - fast and powerful SoC, loads of RAM, huge amount of internal storage plus expandable microSD? Sounds great. I just hope the issues I've been having with Windows 10 Mobile aren't going to happen with that device.

 

I've been an avid, die hard Windows Mobile user since Windows Phone 7 (I even had a Windows Mobile 6.5 device before, but I knew WM6.5 was shit - WP7 was a good attempt at a refresh). But I've been having too many issues, too many annoyances, to be satisfied anymore.

 

Some of the issues, no doubt, are the phone itself. But even with hard resets, I still have issues. I may finally consider a non-Windows phone in the fall when it's time to get a new phone. I will still consider Windows 10 Mobile, and whatever higher end phones are available for it, but I will also for the first time, seriously consider Android and iOS along with it.

WebOS was actually fucking awesome for the time, but like any new or small entrant (*cough*windows*cough*) to the mobile OS market, gaining a foodhold is an uphill battle on the best of days. The high cost of hardware, plus lack of third party apps, plus HP trying to push an overpriced tablet as one of the core devices for the OS, instead of a smartphone, plus many other circumstances, all lead to the downfall of Palm, PalmOS, and WebOS.

That is greatly exaggerated. Every week there are new apps being ported. The app gap is less of a problem than people realize because honestly the website versions are just fine and in fact I know some IOS and Android only apps which really Suck and those users complain. Meanwhile Windows 10 Mobile users find an alternative which doesn't suck.

He was referring to PalmOS' key downfalls and lack of third party support being a big factor in its downfall.

Windows did have a major issue with third party apps when WP7 came out. WP8 had the same issue, and so did WM10. The issue is still there, even if it's greatly reduced.

 

But never the less, my post wasn't even about Windows 10 Mobile

After using a 5.7" Lumia 640XL i completely agree. i can't go back to anything 4-4.9" again.

 

I would only consider 5-5.7" because I'm starting to have issues with my phone being too big for some of my pockets.

Personally I'm very keen to try out Continuum on my desk at work. I've got a dual monitor setup with my PC, I'd like to be able to Dock my Phone, and switch one of the monitors Inputs to the Phone (or even both? Dual monitors on a phone? I assume that's not possible yet.)

With the surface pro swapping GPUs on the fly. Not to mention changing the whole circuit on the fly without a restart. We are moving in the right direction
