RX 480 or GTX 1070?

I'm in a big dillema. Would you choose 6700k + Rx 480 or 6600k + GTX 1070? Playing on 1080p monitor and high-ultra.

CPU is something I tend to use longer than the GPU and the i7 will probably last you longer.

6600K + GTX 1070 will outperform the i7 + RX 480 in games. By a heavy margin

6600k and 1070. i7s don't benefit you much for gaming right now, and won't for a long time, if at all, even with Vulkan and DX12 on the rise.

 

Plus the 1070 walks all over the 480.

6600k with a 1070 is just a better value combo. A 6700k with a RX480 is kinda a waste.

Very few games benefit from hyper threading which is all the i7 brings to the table. Wat better off with the more powerful card.

which is why the build with a 1070 has a 6600k instead of a 6700k

 

also RX480s are about $300+ right now while the 1070 is about 400

so not that big of a difference

 

either way, the 1070+i5 build will still perform twice as well as the 480+i7

And yet nobody is willing to afford SuperCard Gaming-Z 962 Ultra, which costs 1 million USD, which has same FPS/cost ratio to RX 480. That's not an argument for someone on tight budget.

If you're limited to 60Hz, get the 480.

 

If you're rocking anything above 60Hz, get the 1070.

I was stating a fact, not arguing an argument. The OP had two choices, and the 1070 and 6600k is definitely a better choice

No. The "dude". Asked question on which should you go for, without overpaying. It means the cheapest viable decision. He doesn't need GTX 1070 performance for 1080p, if RX 480 does rock ~60FPS in modern titles.

This is 1080p gaming, and 1070 aren't 100$ ahead of 480's, at least not in most countries.

i'd say i7+480 and upgrade in 2 to 3 years.

if you want to upgrade your monitor in the mean time consider the 1070, but beware i5+1070 is much more expensive.

He mentioned nothing about 'overpaying' or 'cheapest possible solution'. You just read what you want to read.

In that case he might as well go for a 6600k and rx480

What refresh rate is your monitor? If you're at 60hz, then you might as well get the RX 480, having a CPU that will be more capable later on if you choose to upgrade.

If you're using a 144hz monitor, then go with the 1070. You'll be able to get more use from it.

There are many titles that spread the game over the entire core count of the CPU. It's not like it used to be, where hyperthreading wasn't used at all.

Mmm. Not quite. RX's are around $249, the 1070 is $450.

Or, in Canadian, $329 for the RX 480 and $589 for the 1070. Quite a difference.

That would make a lot of sense. Depends how long he's going to wait before upgrading. If he's thinking 3 or 4 years in the future, then he might as well keep the i5 and upgrade the entire system then.

Why doesn't someone ask him the price of a 480 in croatia so you can all stop bickering about the value proposition, I doubt it's under $320 equivalent though based on other EU country prices.
