RX 480 or GTX 1070?

BrisoX

i hoped to talk some sense into this thread before it went to shit.

i am too late :/

on topic:

in most games hyperthread is only a 10% or so benefit AT MOST.

in most games the 1070 beats the RX480 by a landslide.

make of that what you will, i'd say if you have the budget for i5 + 1070 either go 1070 or wait for the bigger AMD cards if you prefer AMD.

Which won't be there forever. The OP probably wouldn't waiting a couple of weeks to save the money.

Especially since the 1070 currently has the same stocking issue.

I'm in a big dillema. Would you choose 6700k + Rx 480 or 6600k + GTX 1070? Playing on 1080p monitor and high-ultra.

The way I see it, since I also still game on a single 1080p monitor myself, despite the GTX 1070 offering almost twice as much performance as the RX 480, unless you have a 144Hz 1080p monitor, I'd say go with the RX 480 setup. Why? Because if you only have a standard 60Hz or 75Hz 1080p monitor, and you decide to go with the GTX 1070, chances are you're probably gonna experience screen tearing most of the time unless you turn on V-sync. Idk about you, but I personally hate turning on V-sync because sometimes it causes quite noticeable input delay. Take a look at some benchmarks, the GTX 1070 at 1080p is pushing 100++ fps in the majority of games today, while the RX 480 is still performing roughly between 45-75 fps, but mostly it stays above 60fps.

As for the CPU, if you have the money to go with the 6700k instead of the 6600k then I'd say go for it. It surely wouldn't hurt to have the hyperthreading availability of the 6700k even though you might not use it to its full potential if you're only gaming, but who knows what will happen to games in the future.

200$ flat? That's for the 4 gb ver. I was expecting under 300 USD for the 8gb version.

As for canada, The rx480 8gb is under 400$ which is an ok buy but I'll wait for the freaken AIB cards and the stock level to get back to normal level.

Heck, I don't even have a PC yet. I'll see what the GTX 1060 can offer and make a judgement on that.

Canada pricing is just stupid with all the taxes and such, especially when you're in Quebec, they charge you 15%. Fking insane. :(

It was Always $200 US for the 4G card.More for the 8G card.

Currently the 4G is $260 Cdn and the 8G is $335 Cdn. Which is about right with the current exchange rate.

in performance ther is no contest the 1070 is way faster is the mater of weather you want to pay for that price premium, but since you only play at 1080p the RX 480 is plenty enough

lives on

Jeez, people thinking a GTX 1070 is overkill for 1080p. It makes perfect sense to have a GTX 1070 for a 1080p monitor with a 144hz refresh rate.
