nvidia cut the prices of the gtx 900 series

Those are out of production and Nvidia are trying to sell them but it's still worse value than Polaris.

That's just Newegg cutting prices to clear stock and not official price cuts from Nvidia.

"NVIDIA along with their AIB partners have issued price cuts on several GeForce 900 series graphics cards which are based on their Maxwell architecture."

Cause it's poor value and they know it. It's still poor value even at half price

WCCF can write whatever they want, but there was no official price cut from Nvidia. It didn't happen. Notice how Amazon doesn't have these price cuts and no one else is reporting this? The author of the article, Hassan, is an apologetic Nvidia fanboy and this is not the 1st time he's made shit up.

what is there to be surprised? When new stuff comes out they will seize production of the old stuff, and try to sell off inventory as fast as possible because they will only lose value overtime. They have to lower the price to increase the demand for it.

There is no price cut from Nvidia, they stopped selling GM204 and GM200 chips to AIBs at least a month and a half ago.

You looking at a 980 ti? The 1070 is gonna cost around The same for a little better performance while also having a bunch of cool features.

 

You looking at a 980? The 480 at this point is rumored to have similar performance at only 200 bucks. Even if it doesn't, there are bound to be some blower 1070s that cost 380 bucks and two 480s would probably beat the 980 by quite a bit.

 

You looking at a 970? A 480 will be better and cheaper. 470 might even perform the same.

It's not even confirmed. The source for the wccftech article was a videocardz article. The Videocardz article had no source. It's just an observation that the price of those top tier cards have dropped. It is in no way a price cut. Instead it is just newegg trying to empty out inventory. It's too bad I'm really not in the enthusiast gaming segment anymore. I figure I'm just gonna get Kaby Lake, overclock the snot out of both the CPU and iGPU and just play Guild Wars 2, Majesty 2, and Diablo 2. Plus probably PS2 and Wii games until Zelda: Breath of the Wild comes out. I wonder if it'll come with a GT3e option like Broadwell did...

That's dependent on the game. Games not relying on asynchronous compute and shading actually favor Maxwell.
