HTC and Beats officially part ways

RyanTH98

HTC and Beats have now officially parted ways. Beats bought the remaining 25% stake from HTC. No one really knows why these two companies split up.

Now seeing as htc lost one of it's greatest motivators to get their customers to buy their phones it doesn't seem like they'll be having as many customers as before.

At least HTC ended up coming out with a total of $415 million on their initial $300 million investment.

All I can say is that I hope their rumored upcoming phone, the HTC MAX, still has beats audio.

EDIT: Now I see why everyone is saying that beats aren't that important. Thanks for the explanation videos. I guess you learn something new every day.

i found that beats audio on my phone (htc one v) made no difference what so ever, even with high empeidence head phones. a phone dosent need to have beats written on the back to have good audio, the htc one for example dosent have great audio anyway.

Good riddance.  I wish Beats would just fall off the face of the earth.

For anyone who hasn't watched Marques's video on what beats audio really does and why it's deceptive and a load of bull:

It's not really going to make anything better or worse for HTC's phones, and I doubt it was really a significant factor selling HTC's phones to anyone except the OP. I'm personally just happy that future HTC phones will have one less ugly logo.

Beats audio was just an eq setting that's all and beats are terrible anyway to anyone who knows anything about audio they would not care or want it if u want better audio go with an iPhone.

Thank frick for that!

They need better audio chips/hardware, not just software work around's.

If they can master that, they will have a winner, beyond what it already is! :)

Wait a sec...

By missing my chance to buy an HTC One at launch, and waiting long enough that I should just wait for the 2nd gen of the HTC One, results in me getting a new next-gen HTC One that does not include Beats and the hideous "tramp stamp" on the back of the phone?

Waiting FTW!

Beats Audio on my HTC phone is just like a volume booster and it made no difference in the audio imo.

I have an HTC one and I got it because it looked nice with the full unibody metal backing. I honestly did not care one single bit for beats because they are absolutely nothing. All it does is mess with the high and lows and adds some bass. In the end they sound terrible and drains your battery. I find only people who likes beats buys it but in my opinion, they suck. Only those who know what real sound sounds like, they wouldn't buy it for beats. If you like beats and you are a sound nerd, well (trying not to be harsh) stop trying to be a sound nerd cause you are making yourself look stupid in front of those who knows what pure quality sound is like

I think HTC started catching wind of Beats receiving a lot of bad PR lately (mostly due to consumers becoming better-informed) and decided to pull out.

I wish they have this new Bose Audio :D that would be BOMB

I don't actually know whether Bose's products are considered "good" in the audiophile community in the same way Sennheiser and Audio-Technica are, but I'd definitely approve of a Bose partnership over Beats. Especially if they keep designing HTC One-styled phones, Bose's aesthetic would go perfectly with them (though not actually full metal admittedly) and I think it would have more overlap in the target audience as well... though I'm not 100% certain about that last part.

Anyways, I really like Bose products so it would be cool to see some kind of partnership, especially if it was retroactive and I could get benefits out of my current HTC One and older Bose headphones. That's unlikely, but so is the partnership itself.

if bose worked with htc they could work on some sort of noise cancelling - there good at that, so you use normal earphones but bose software uses the mic on the phone and cancels the background noise so it sounds clearer ? ... just an idea

Its all about those volumetric clouds

Best news I've heard in a long time! I think HTC wised up to the shenanigans pulled by Beats, and the bad word of mouth that's been going around in audio and tech forums.....good example is here. I recall a guy reviewing a pair of cans by Beats and he was....let's say, he was taken aback by the responses he'd received and leave it at that. As I'd mentioned in one of the threads, some HiFi guys I know who sell audio equipment, including ear buds and cans, told me the only reason why they are selling Beats earbuds and cans is due to the sheep who think they sound great....bassheads would love it, I can't deny that. But, for the more discerning layman, Sennheiser, Audio Technica, Shure and a host of others would be much better choices. It's good they have parted ways, perhaps now HTC can work on improving their audio on their own, or work with an audio specialist group like Sennheiser for example.
