When they say "4K  video", is it actually a proper 4K BR reader, or, a simple upscaling HD bluray platform ?

No, there should be no real reason for him to upgrade. Just get him an external USB 3.0 hard drive if he's running out of storage.

It's probably a 4K Blue Ray player. That's it. And it probably can playback 4K video, just don't expect 4K 60fps Crysis 3. I'd say even 4K minecraft would be stretch,

It means that Sony et Microsoft are planning to distribute the cheapest 4K BR reader ? Because the current offers are pretty expensive.

But yeah, impossible that these new consoles will run 4K for gaming. If at least they could perform 1080P/60FPS ...

Actually I'm very seduced by the price and the design. I don't know what the specs are, but at this price point I'm definitely ready to buy it. I don't know if I should be called crazy, but am I right to consider selling my PC, and even my Steam/Origin/Uplay accounts (not sure if it's legal), and get just this console and a Surface Pro for productivity and to play the only PC-only games I'm interested in (Age of Empires and The Sims)?

just to clarify this is just the normal xbox one thats been shrunk not the new more powerful one with the supposed 6Tflops its rumored to have

Well it looks like it is an upgraded version as it supports 4K video playback and HDR game rendering. Not sure about the Tflops though. You might be right, this would explain how they managed to keep the price the same.
