Skylake-E to be called Skylake-X

rm -rf

According the http://wccftech.com/intel-skylake-x-kaby-lake-x-q2-2017-roadmap-leak/

The Skylake HEDT line will be called Skylake-X, and discontinue the naming scheme of Sandy Bridge-E, Ivy Bridge-E, Haswell-E, and Broadwell-E.

Quote

Intel would rename their Skylake-E family to Skylake-X to represent their market positioning at the high-end desktop PCs

The chipset is to be called Kaby Lake PCH, not as catchy as their earlier names.

It also seems that it will be at a lower price than the Skylake-E, though they have only given approximations for the most expensive in the lineup. "~$1500 US"

What do you think of the Skylake-X? Should they have moved on from LGA 2011-3, should they have kept with the naming scheme?

EDIT: Thanks to @Stefan1024 for finding: http://www.golem.de/news/skylake-x-intels-neue-cpus-sollen-im-fruehling-2017-erscheinen-1606-121339.html Which is saying that it will be using LGA 3647, a much larger socket.

i don't care about it still being 2011-3. I mean, does changing the socket really make a difference? If it had 2012 Pins it'd still do the same Thing.

All i want is a 500€ 8Core.

yes they are just changing a letter to make it seem cooler

and at $1500 its definitely not cheaper than it used to be

either way, a new socket is necessary

you need more pins for all the stuff thats getting added

thats why it has like 70% more or whatever than 2011

So is there any reputable sources that are predicting the socket for the HEDT Skylake-X?

6950x is the highest its ever been

for the past half decade its been $1000 flagship

so $1500 is still way more expensive than usual, and the lower end models will probably not change price

the LGA 3647 is to allow FPGA for the Xeons, I doubt that the HEDT consumer parts will come with FPGA so I'd expect a different socket...

Wonder if the pricing on the new top tier is going to be the same situation between AMD RX and pascal. Where the bigger company gets overconfident and prices it waaaaay to high only to get undercut from AMD.

If Skylake-X is expected to be $1500 at max; hopefully that will mean, 12-core at $1500, 10 core at $1000, 8 core at $600, (40-lane)6 core at $550, (28-lane)6 core at $399.

It would be quite interesting to see a 12 core i7, though I'm more interested in finding out what their cheapest 6 core is going to be, as I'm building a computer next year mid-late Q3.
