I was looking at that before so the 4790k then

For gaming, yes. If you really want to stay on the bleeding edge of technology, go for the 6700K.

At the end of the day, it's down to you.

I say jiggly-bytes when I see "GB".

It goes down better than you would expect.

I don't see a reason to get an older generation. The 6700K supports DDR4 which can actually make a difference in some games. It also has a new and better architecture. A better option is the 6800K, since you do rendering, although it is a bit more expensive + X99 mobos are also a bit more expensive.

I like the 5820k it is just a tiny bit better than the i7-6700k, the 5820k is more of a workstation cpu

Never, ever use <component>boss.com, as you can clearly see they straight up lie about the results or the testing method is flawed, since the 4790k slams the 6700k in their benchmark when in reality the 6700k beats the i7-4790k :)

for real gaming comparisons, watch youtube videos like these

6700K if the final build does not end up significantly more than a 4790K build

For Skylake you will probably pay more for the mobo and DDR4 as well

But for future proof 6700k

6700k just isn't possible at that budget, since it's so much more expensive than the 6600k :)

and the 1070 price is based on:

379 (USD cost of the non founders edition 1070)/699 (USD cost of the founders edition 1080)*1200 (AUD cost of the founders edition 1080)

other case options:

NZXT S340 in another color

Corsair 230T (i have the orange windowed version myself and i love it)

Corsair 200R

the 4790k costs the exact same, the motherboard is only 30$ less and the ram also costs the exact same if not more :)
