If it turns out to be the case. That would surely be disappointing.

Yeah there's been fastest ever stuff getting released for decades, ever since there was one product more powerful than another one.  What do you want them to say? :P

I view "ever" as based on the past and the future not just current moment like this topic does. "Ever" has kinda epic feel to it, but knowing theres faster tech coming up in few months makes it lose its epicness...
In this case "In the world" would be lot more suitable and realistic :D thats all.

EVER is such a bad word. Everytime Nvidia releases hjigh end gpu its the fastest because AMD cant compete at this lvl. SO when 1080ti comes out it will be FASTEST EVER ! , Titan will be FASTEST EVER !....

I have to disagree, as it usually is nVidia releases "fastest" ...then AMD releases fastest and so on :P

I don't know about that... Usually one of them releases a fastest product, and then laugh as the other tries to catch up.  Who is who has flopped back and forth over the years though :P

Its all well and good saying the fastest ever but do we have some actual specs to back that up? What are the clock speeds?

If it is locked to 1.25v that'll  be a shame (maybe the turbo button at the back has something to do with it) then it would be a real shame considering the premium galax put on their HoF cards, even now if you want a 970 HoF  you'll be paying over £300

No there aren't unless you only have the single 8-pin. Overvolting the GDDR5X is still locked a la Fury X HBM, but that's an expected growing pain.

We've seen some pictures of the pcb of this new card but galax has now officially announced it according to wccftech.

Galax is confident that this is the fastest 1080 (atleast until the Kingpin gets released) which would make it the fastest consumer GPU ever made, it has three 90mm fans and dual 8 pin connectors. As much as I love the Hall of Fame series (I own a HoF myself) I cant help but think this isnt the looker it used to be which is... disappointing.

Not entirely... most haven't bothered upping the voltage limits in the new VBIOS's

People have tried that, soldering extra 8 pin on, soldering extra VRMs on, all have failed.

Um, custom bios? Are those not out for the 1080 yet?

There's already mods for overvolting the memory, core, and PLL.

The problem is, when core voltage goes above 1.25v, the driver crashes.  There is some sort of limitation / problems with either the driver, card , or something else.  It doesn't seem to be VRM related, or BIOS related. People have already designed extreme overclocking BIOS's and tried them on multiple cards, as well as soldering external VRM boards onto the cards, to directly bypass all onboard VRM. (The EVGA E-Power board to be exact)

Nvidia releases the fastest GPU in GPU market. AMD releases the fastest AMD ever made before but is never No. 1 in the world (I don't count dual GPU as an effort). None of them go backwards with performance.

The comments about "fastest ever!!" in this thread, like, "fastest in this time period", "fastest ever ... until 1080 Ti / Titan are released", etc ... remind me of something I was researching recently - IPC improvements in CPUs.

Yes but it's correct... they are saying 'ever' not 'forever'. Who in their right mind doesn't know it will soon be surpassed? I can't quite see them start saying "the fastest GPU in the world... for now"... doesn't quite have the same ring to it lol! It's just marketing and if people don't realise that something faster will be available in 6 months time, more fool them.

As we get older though, we get used to this guff, fed up with it to the point that it no longer excites or even has any meaning. Why do you think old people are generally so miserable? Because they've seen the same old crap regurgitated a million times over, the glossy lifestyle veneer we are sold ad nauseam day after day wears away over time. Recognise the marketing bs for what it is, don't buy the hype or think this stuff in any way makes your life 'better', and acknowledge the grass will always be greener. Enjoy yourself, don't stress and wear sunscreen. ;)

i might go with a 1080/1080ti now instead of the inevitable 490x just because of the completely white design. Would make my pink/white matx build possible.

well , as it turns out , the gtx 1080 becomes unstable over 1.25V ( crash ), so it can't go very high  ( even after custom bios + custom VRM etc ). Furthermore , it scales terribly over 2ghz.

Right now , 2.1ghz seems to be around the max .

If 2100MHz is the max that's kind of a bummer since people were able to get 40-50% overclocks out of a 980 Ti and this one seems to cap out at 30% overclock.

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here
