Try going through your retailer first. If they won't help go to your local Citizens Advice Bureau and get them to draft you a letter to send to your retailer and LG quoting the relevant sections of the SOGA.

 

If LG want to take this to small claims court you'll probably win even with the cracked camera lens due to a reasonable expectancy of wear and tear and the fact that LG have issued a statement admitting to the hardware problems (UK court shouldn't give two hoots if the statement was issued in the US or UK as the company is acting under the same name in both locations).

Guys think of it like this: If your car gets a dent from a stupid driver, and then there is a manufacturer defect in something important like the engine, but the car manufacturer won't fix it because of voided warranty. Even though the dent at the back of the car would not affect the engine.

huh weird, I've damaged my flex 2 and I was able to get it repaired by Sprint, and it was rooted, and had scuffs and dents all over it.

If you had read this thread AND comprehended to entirety of OP's story, you would be able to easily draw the conclusion that a hardware-related issue that did not manifest itself until AFTER OP DROPPED HIS PHONE is most likely the direct cause of OP dropping his phone.

Thats the diffidence between a warranty and insurance. You probably had to pay a deductible. Shit I fucking lost my phone one day. I paid the deductible and got a new phone no questions asked. 

 

What most people dont seem to understand is this. Device manufactures DO NOT send you your device back. They take it in, make sure its all covered and send a NEW or Refurbished Unit. Thats how it works. Thats why when I sent my ACER monitor in for warranty I had to keep the stand and all the cords. Thats why LG is like well your SOL, because why should they have to pay to fix something the OP clearly broke. 

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

If you get a dent, the car hitting you could also have affected the engine.

But here's the thing, the fault didn't appear immediately after breaking the lens, it happened later.

 

Now, we know for a fact that the fault is with the manufacturer, because they have admitted that it is their fault. As they have proven themselves that it is NOT the fault of the consumer, then LG should replace it. 

 

This is how you come across at the moment:

I fell down the stairs a couple of years ago. So if I had a bone condition that I was born with, and my leg suddenly broke, it MUST be the fact that I fell down the stairs 2 years ago, and I shouldn't get treatment for this unrelated break because it was my fault for falling down the stairs, even though that incident has nothing to do with the actual problem.

 

Also, drops basically never cause faults to the mainboard, because the body of the phone crumples before any shock can reach the mainboard. This is no different with the G4. It's usually a crush that causes mainboard damage, like being ran over or something.

You, too, have missed the key point in this whole thing.  

 

It's not about the lens.  

 

It's about the reboot loop which did not start occurring until after the phone was dropped.

 

If it's not understood by now, it never will.  OP dropped and damaged phone... problem occurs for first time after the drop.  It's pretty simple.

I was the other day looking inot the legal side of it and a couple of points I got were:

  • Consumer Rights Act 2015 covers my case and I could have got it replaced under that. However, because it was purchased before October 2015, I'm not covered by it
  • I'm covered under the Sale of goods act 1979 however, I have to prove that the issue was present at the point of sale.
  • I'm only covered under the consumer protection act if I've suffered damages from this defect

Alas, LG most likely would win. I'll try and get some phone records off them but that's all I can do.

@Mug in a civil suit in the uk you only have to prove on the balance of probabilities that the fault was the manufacturers not beyond all reasonable doubt so long as you can show its a known issue with the device i.e. a statement of defect regardless of divisions lg is one company then it's there fault under the sale of goods act.

 

uk law trumps all warranty's and contracts you cannot agree to something unlawful in a warranty or TOS in the event of an unlawful agreement the contract is null and void.

 

i advise you to go to your local citizens advice bureau also trading standards and your local consumer ombudsmen 

 

collect as much evidence about the fault from social media groups, from lg usa and any other support forums 

 

you can also get a specialist phone repair service to inspect the device and provide evidence of the fault

 

if everything goes well they will have to replace or reimburse you. 

 

and it will set precedence and all other uk citizens with the same defect will get a replacement or reimbursed

Just call them back and mention the 2 phrases "Trading Standards" & "BBC Watchdog" and see how long it takes them to repair your phone!!

Trouble is that the service centre is in Kent. I could drive there and back for maybe ~£100 or get the train for ~£70, it's not worth it.

 

Contacted Amazon, can't get a replacement from them.

I'm going to have to suck it up and pay for the lens replacement and hope to god that they don't find another reason to void my warranty. LG has outsourced their repairs to a different company which literally couldn't give a damn about their customers.

And it's being "fixed". I have had so little time recently to check up on it but I sent it off to SBE last week or the week before last or something like that and I've paid for two falts to be fixed, the camera lens and they found an issue with the casing so I was like "whatever, it's only a couple of quid extra". The total was £60.48.

I'll check up on it on monday because it's important that it gets fixed quick becasue my warranty expires on the 2nd. I'm also going on holiday on the 30th so it would be good if I had it back by then.

Still really pissed though, 2/3 of a day's wages for a repair I should have for free isn't a good deal at all. I plan to follow this through to a small claims court afterwards because it's pretty much unacceptable that I've had to do this.

Well people, as an update, I've finally got my phone back after a month.

 

So what did they do? What happened?

Well, when I sent it off to the LG approved repair centre, they found two faults with it, the broken camera lens and an apparant "cosmetic refurb" so I said ok and they did just that but what they refurbished was a little strange, they re-did the speaker grill bit at the bottom of the phone under the back cover. This genuinely didn't need doing but ah well, it probably only cost me a couple of quid to fix so that's alright I guess. I thought it was an issue with the casing because there are some minor scuffs on it but it wasn't that.

They then "sent it off" to the in-warranty place (when they said sent it off, they really meant move to a different room as I believe SBE does both the in and out of warranty repairs) and they replaced the mainboard. This needed doing but you know, they took their time.

Got it back today and am currently installing and downlading all of my stuff back on it. I'm still pretty annoyed and am definitely going to pursue this further because the crack and the cosmetic refurb didn't need doing at all to fix the problem. I'm going to ask LG for their report on what caused the issue and their phone records.

I'm also noticing a slow-down in the OS but I'm sure it'll level out in the coming weeks. So happy I've got my phone back though but not happy with the service I recieved to get to this position.
