Possibly dumb question. Legit answer wanted.

I want to spend my money wisely so should I buy this card:

or should I wait for the new gtx 1080 and get two of them (reference or custom) in SLI.

 

Not a fan of the aircooling idea of that and don't want a custom waterloop, but I want to know if it is worth it to take the reference cards in sli vs the 980 ti watercooled.

Two 1080s in SLI (if I'm understanding correctly) would destroy a single 980ti, watercooled or not. I can't imagine reference temps would be bad enough to go with a last gen single GPU.

That card is not the best factory AIO card by a long shot. The EVGA Hybrid is the best and the MSI Seahawk is right after it. But, as others have said wait for the benchmarks. Also keep an eye on Polaris 10 which should be out in a month.

Huh, as you can see, this guy thinks I believe it's 2x Titan X. I never said that. It was faster in all the benches they showed but especially faster in VR. Probably because this generation was designed for VR tasks like for example, how Maxwell is terrible at DX12 because the chip is not designed for the API.

No, I'm saying nVidia has lied at every press release, ever. They lied about Maxwell getting a update to "unlock" asynchronous compute.

Alright he usually does with consumer hardware... That was needlessly mean towards him. He knows a lot about consumer hardware. And he appears to be attempting to learn about enterprise stuff.

Just go to ebay and buy a 980ti. They are selling for around $350. When real benchmarks come out the prices will rise again. Or AMD releases some decent GPUs and the 1080 is dead in it's tracks. AMD gain market share, releases new CPUs ahead of schedule gains more market share and then the 6590X is $999 and I profit.

Answer for everyone who is thinking of getting a 980ti or a 1080... Yes the 1080 will be faster then a 980ti and have more Vram. Dont know how much better itll do in games but I know for sure it'll perform better.

Will only perform better in DX12, we have been through this.

I kinda doubt that but well see when we get some benchmarks out until then you wont know for sure buuuuuuuuudy, and see which of us is right. Either way why buy the older gen when the 1080 is going to at least match if not beat the older card.

If that's the case, why the NDA? I would expect a 1080 to beat a 980ti at some things (a 980ti being faster than a Titan X remember) but not to the degree Nvidia stated. So if you have a choice between a 350 dollar 980ti or a 600 dollar 1080 until we have benchmarks I'd go 980ti. I have NEVER run out of GPU, and my sig is a joke because it's funny. But the obvious choice is to wait for the benchmarks.
