Probably worth it if you plan to do streaming, but what's your budget? and what were you going to build?

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

depends on the graphics card, resolution and your game (GTA V is also heavy on your cpu, so streaming GTA V will require an i7 with an 970 or above, 960 and under should do fine with an i5)

But if you want to save some money a nice i5 might suffice, in fact a 6600K would work nicely in that build... although i7s are nice, i've had a lot of them lol

it is so cheap it is hard to justify not getting 16GB.

and it is legitimately useful.

While doing light streaming, I guess going with the i5 6600k and a better graphic card might be wise.

K is only worth it if you are going to do massive overclocking on it, but how it sounds you don't need K

Because the i7 6700 already turbos to 4ghz, and you'd be then spending hundreds of dollars potentially for maybe 10% more performance after you OC.

Which would get you a better GPU, or better yet save that money for the new GPUs in a few months, or buy a better display

This build is very similar to mine.

I record a few videos a week.

If you just stream a little I'd go for the i5 6500 or 6600k and get a better gpu (that's the one thing I wish my pc had)

But if u plan to stream a few times a week get the i7

get i5+16 gb of ram, i5->i7 is +94 pounds, 8gb->16gb is +26 pounds

only get the i7 if you really want that extra performance for future GPU upgrades, i hate to use the word "future-proofing", but it's better to spend 94 pounds now than to upgrade for much more later down the road

Guys, it's 2016. We don't use CPUs for streaming anymore. All GPUs now have an integrated h.264 (de)coder in them. You can use QuickSync with Intel graphics (in all 115x CPUs), NVenc with nVidia cards and AMD VCE for Radeon Cards. All of these are supported by OBS.

Better quality compared to? I think somebody actually did a comparison betweein x264, VCE, QS and NVenc. x264 won in quality, but taxed the performance too much (how unexpected), all others ended up same in performance loss, but NVenc had really bad quality.

I have just been watching some videos on the 970 vs 390 in some games and it seems the 390 gets a lot of frame drops. Also when the 970 is overclocked the 970 seems to be winning as well... Why?
