They will both be coming out soon!!!

 

As far as I have seen, Pascal is winning!

 

Who do you think is winning in terms of leaks/rumors and who do you think will be worth buying in the next couple of months?!

Okay, so how is Pascal winning? We have not seen one consumer Pascal GPU at all while we have seen Polaris being showcased.

 

Rumors are rumors. Wait for actual facts to come out and then decide.

From what I know, Vega is the real powerhouse on AMDs side, and we don't know much about it. 

 

Can't say anyone is winning until we get facts.

seeing as Polaris was said to be for the mainstream and not enthusiast and high end i think they will both dominate there own part of the market, NVIDA will have the top end and AMD the mid to low end and laptops

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

In what way is Pascal winning?  I suggest you watch AdoredTV's videos about Polaris and Pascal rumors and news.

i HOPE they do, im more of an NVIDA fan but the market is so dead and everything is so freaking expensive, there needs to be competition!!!

how is pascal winning? where are the reviews of the cards and the pure benchmark scores? oh wait that doesn't exist yet so...also if I was to buy a new card this Gen, polaris (or vega depending on which market polaris actually caters for).

AMD are best at controlling the mainstream market while Nvidia is being choked out into the small high end market IMO.

Why are you comparing all of Pascal to Polaris?

 

Polaris is like Tonga or Tahiti. It's midranged. It's not going to replace Hawaii or Fiji. You should be looking at Vega.

 

Can we stop clumping AMD's Arctic Islands chips under the name Polaris?

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.

I read that Vega will be releasing LATER than pascal's mid-high end. That's a win from my perspective. It IS a race after all.

 

On the other hand, we did get that Polaris Battlefront demo with sweet TDP.

 

I ask because I just sold a horrible MSI gaming laptop and will be looking for a $800~ replacement since I just built a Desktop. 

 

Good to see the perspectives! 

 

Do we have any info on release dates for the high end cards, 970 equivalent?

 

Also, how about Laptops with the new GPUs, any news?

Yeah Vega and Volta. Pascal and Polaris look like a step with die shrink but the next generation will have HBM2 and HBM1 on all cards plus whatever is next.

AMD financial news noted that Polaris 11 will be also mass laptop, while Polaris 10 will also be "enthusiast laptop" GPU.

 

So within half of a year the current mobile GPUs will be old-gen by some margin, where as within a year current enthusiast mobile GPU will be like third gen behind - when expensive top tier HBM2 cards will go in, including Zen APU based laptops. Nvidia will likely have their own line-up as well, but when it's still unknown.

 

And at ~2018 we have Navi which is quite interesting in the scope of AMD "master plan" and the "scalability" keyword describing it. If it means what people think it means basing on AMD technology - they will be able to create a big GPU performance by joining multiple small chips - to act as a one GPU but with some separate memory regions and so on. Smaller chips are way more manufacturable than bigger ones, so more performance for the same amount of money.

 

As for gaming - AMD has Sony and MS consoles and it's likely to have Nintendo as well. They created Mantle API that suite their hardware best. It went to consoles and PC as Mantle itself, DX12 and Vulkan. And as many games target consoles as it's a vastly bigger market than PC - they target AMD hardware and AMD way of using it and it features - then PC ports turn out more AMD than nVidia friendly ;) If Pascal won't provide high performance in areas that are emphasized by new APIs then it's more likely than benchmarks wins will go to AMD products. And AMD controlling game development is one of reasons why nvidia is trying to grab any other possible market - cars, compute, and so on ;)

 

So it looks like year by year there will be a noticeably newer/different GPU technology available.

You guys should REALLY check out the excellent coverage of this issue by Jim on his  youtube channel "AdoredTV" . 
Nvidia has clearly got the mind share over AMD not to mention the market share, but things are shifting rapidly, and there is a reason why Nvidia is now shifting towards other branches of revenue like the auto industry and other pro stuff and away from consumer market, they know they are fucked. 
AMD controls what the game developers are going to choose, AMD hardware is in all consoles and some PCs, but understand that around 90% of game sales occur in the console sphere. Therefore games are designed mainly for these platforms, which sport AMD GPUs / CPUs / APUs 
That is a game changer as the games are becoming overwhelmingly optimized for AMD, just check out how the latest DX12 games fare with Nvidia vs AMD Gpus... 
Go watch all the tech news videos of that guy, you will understand a LOT more about what is actually happening in this rapidly shifting market. 

PS : AMD is going to crush Nvidia =)

Watch more of his vids, he is actually very impartial. He knocks on amd when they deserve and Nvidia same. 
He recommends buying Nvidia GPU for his latest gaming build guide because they are better for now.
