Stupid Intel Heatsink

OsuMasterz

I was taking out my intel heatsink to remove the old thermal paste for some noctua brand TIM. After I was done, I tried to put it back in but it wont barge. The heatsink is not made evenly and is biased the one side of the heatsink or the other. Even if I push evenly at the same time on the pegs, one peg will still not go in. Im not getting a new cooler until late May so I need some help...

you're doing it wrong my friend.

either you broke it in removing it, or you didnt properly "reset" the pins to insert it back in.

I rotated them counter clock wise all the way though

You do that to take it out and then you rotate clockwise and pull them upwards to reset them before re-installtion

you need to make sure they're not in the pushed in state.

they need to stick out a bit, like so:

Thank you, I finally got it in. If you would've seen me for the past hour, you'd think I was about to take a Katana to the computer...

thats all of us mate, its like technology is made to make us go crazy.

(totally not dealing with an electrically perfect ethernet cable that refuses to pass any form of connection right now...)

sounds like first timer problems.

but for the future as long as a cooler had proper thermal paste when it was connected there's no good reason to pull it just to replace the thermal paste, at best you'll get a couple degrees cooler if you get the most amazing thermal compound. And this may or may not be the kind of scene that happens when tech doesn't want to work for me...
