Hello,

LinusTechTipsians, My father which is an architect buys all his components from a guy who built him a high - end work station with Quadros and stuff. So I am looking to build my first PC for my birthday. Which I have about 900 US to invest + some money from my relatives. I asked this guy for any recomendations. Mostly were i7 or i5 and NVIDIA. So I asked him what he thought of this build.

Intel Core i5-6500:  http://amzn.to/1mrq2fr

MSI Radeon R9 390: http://amzn.to/1ODPz1i

MSI Z170A PC MATE: http://amzn.to/1mwHFdf

8GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4: http://amzn.to/1RhDwFN

250GB Crucial BX100: http://amzn.to/1JmrJVs

1TB WD Blue: http://amzn.to/1OrKKpG

EVGA 1000GQ 80+ GOLD, 1000W: http://goo.gl/yuFW8X

Which he replied. That CPU is not Overclockable.Which I told him for later upgrade. Then he said that he would not recommend AMD. Nvidia is always the recommended and told me to switch that with a 970. Which then I sent him benchmarks and that it had 8gb of GDDR5 vram. So Then because all of benchmarks are so messed up. I wanted to ask y'all. For games like: Shadow of Mordor, CS:GO(Not for GFX mostly 144hz Display), The Witcher 3, Fallout 4, Darksouls, ect. Which is better R9 390 or GTX 970.

for the future

You realize that components are getting more power efficient and not more power hungry so unless you're gonna run 3 cards in Xfire/SLI you won't need more than 750W for two cards.

Go with the 390. It seem that guy doesn't really know what he's talking about other than to put PC's together.

Crossfire, Remember AMD CF does not have to be the same GPU

That doesnt have anything to do with what I am saying

I am saying if you are buying a 1kw PSU you better be planning triple 390 or quad 970

Thats that. If you need to get in touch chances are you can find someone that knows me that can get in touch.

Should I? What PSU would you recommend for hhat setup?

Just an example. I'm using a Corsair RM650i that I got on sale for $90 (normally $120) and it's way, way more than enough power for my rig, even after the eventual upgrade to a 390X, Fury X, or something along those lines.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

A 650W EVGA G2, like I tried to link there, would work. There's plenty in the 650-750W range that is at or below the $100 mark and is still an excellent PSU.
