What do you think about drone racing?

Hey guys and gals been doing some looking into the subject of drone racing and am very much interested into it and with ESPN recently announcing that the'll be broadcasting drone racing I started to get curious about how many people are interested in it. So who likes it/ is interested in it?

I lost interest in drones when i realized that the metro and greater metro nyc area are no fly zones.

I would much prefer actually doing the racing myself, just need some FPV gear, seriously considering selling my rift they're currently going for 2x the price of which I got it for. £1060 and £1080 in the last hour. it's kinda insane.

Oh man sorry to here that. You could move here to Idaho we have a ton of free space for drones.

So you lost interest in drones because you can't have 100s of drones flying in a highly populated area with vulnerable children and people? Okay..

Pretty much what I though, I enjoy just watching it. I think its better then any other sport.

It sucks living between two major airports. And Idaho, don't know if I could do it. Too secluded. Lol

 

I do think that drone racing can be exciting if there are some creative courses or if they can capture the excitement of the red bull air races. I guess only time will tell

I do live near one but its not to bad. But also I found out that 2 drl racers are from Idaho.

For the most part (assuming you have a decent frame) the only thing that really breaks are the props, and those are dirt cheap.

Yeah. In the next week or so, I'll probably be buying all the parts I need to get a little 180 quad up and running. That should be entertaining. 

 

While there isn't much racing in WA, there are plenty of forests, etc. where it would be pretty cool to race around.

What frame you gonna use? I strongly recommend Armattan for their lifetime warranty that covers crash damage. That and the frames are built like tanks to begin with. I need to find some people in Phoenix to fly with. I also need to find some time and a couple more batteries :S

I'm probably going to go with armattan (since it's super easy to get a kit, so that I don't have to deal with sourcing stuff from a ton of different places) or I'll go with an alien fram, and try to get a KISS FC and some 24A KISS ESCs.

I've heard good things about littlebee ESCs too, so I'm thinking about those as well. There seems to be a serious shortage of good ESCs out there. Oh, or I might use the tiny hobbywing 10/20A ESCs, depending on how much current my motors draw. what ESCs do you use on your quad?

I got 20amp dys running blheli. Haven't burnt out yet, but I want to get 30amp models.

Again, I haven't had any issues, they do what I want them to. Maybe get the rotor geeks one.

I have been in the RC hobby for over 8 years now(5 of which have been building custom drones). I currently work at a local hobby store in Denver. I also manage the Castle View multi-GP chapter(A chapter of a racing drone organization.)  I believe there is a huge future for the racing drone sport because of the always emerging new technology mixed with the adrenaline that comes with flying through the sky at over 100 mph. I just hope places like DRL does not ruin the sport with their exclusive race entries in addition to them making the sport out to be a fad that will fade away quickly. If you are interested in getting into drone racing or just want to get something faster to fly around I would be happy to help you pick out parts from online distributors such as amazon or eBay and be able to tell you whether they are compatible or not. I am new to the LTT form so if you or anyone else is interested in getting into drone building please message me directly.
