Sony wants to sell 5million ps4 by the end of the year. I think that is to much, but Good luck Sony

Ambition? Sony's got that. The company just announced during its Tokyo Game Show keynote that it plans to sell a solid five million PlayStation 4 consoles by the end of the fiscal year. It's a bold enough goal on its own, but doubly so when one considers the bomb the company dropped last week: the PS4 won't even launch in Japan until February. To put that number into perspective, Nintendo's floundering Wii U only sold slightly more than half of that much during its own launch window. Perhaps a better comparison would be the sales of its own predecessor, the PlayStation 3, which didn't reach the five million mark until almost a year after launch.

Sony, your console probably won't sell 5 million in the first fiscal year.

5 million? thats not that much at all....especially with the way Microsoft has been playing their cards. i think they can do it

Xbox 360 had like 17,000,000 the first year and PS3 had around 11,000,000 the first year. I can see 5 million no problem.

I'm shocked that sony is favoring the American market over the Japanese for the launch of the PS4. And that gap, seriously. Even the gap between the Japanese and American PS3 was only a week. I guess they anticipate on having short supply for a long time, then...

I want to be positive and cheer them on..but I can't knowing full well the PS4 is already outdated before it even hit the market and that console gaming is still below 1080p in 2013.

Well preorders are already over a million I believe, which is already more than the PS3 sold in its first quarter. So I think they might get close to 5 million if they can produce enough. That is a lot to sell in just one quarter though.

Well if they pull it off then that would be nice. One thing I think everyone should consider is that the pre-order details for the PS4 SOny probably already have which is why they are so confident perhaps.

I don't see this as being an unrealistic goal, especially since the PS4 is far superior to the Xbox one. Either way it doesn't matter though because they are both glorified raspberry pi's.

I believe they're talking about end of 2013 fiscal year.

Also, even PS3 plays (some) games at 1080p natively already.

i mean its gonna start selling in mid November so they will have a month and a half
