GPU UPGRADE: MSI r9 290x vs Zotac gtx 970? which is better in 1080p gaming

I'm planning for gpu upgrade.. brandnew r9 290x or 2ndhand Zotac gtx 970

 

My current cpu specs:

cpu: i5-4670k

gpu: sapphire nitro r9 380 2gb

ram: 8gb 1333hz gskil ripjaw

mobo: asus b85m-gamer

psu: seasonic s12ii 620w

msi r9 290x lightning is too rich for my blood... hehe I only got around $350 budget for the gpu upgrade.

See if you can get a used R9 290X. You'd get a better bang for your buck rather than buying it new.

You should be able to find one for that price range actually, especially if you find a good condition used one.  The 290x Lightning is by far the nicest one.

Which model of the 970 and 290x would that be? 

 

Different coolers affect noise and cooling. But the one that would throw more heat into your room would defenitly be the 290x.

290x 8GB = 390x not 390.

There is slight different in BIOS memory timing, power play table also PCB but both perform equally imo.

Check your facts before you post. 

R9 290X = 2816 Stream Processors

R9 390/(290) = 2560 Stream Processors. 

The 390 has a cut down core. In that regard it is in fact inferior. 

Also note that 8GB of VRAM is ridiculous and unnecessary. 4GB is fine.

The model specifically, those two brands have many multiple models of those cards.
