Is My Modem Bottlenecking My Internet?

Guest

I own a D-link router (http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX46872) and I believe it's pretty fast. My ISP is Shaw and my plan is Shaw Internet 60(https://www.shaw.ca/internet/plans/)  which supports up to 60 mbps down and 6 mbps up. On Ookla Speedtest.net i get 10 mbps down and .53 up? I don't understand why it's so low. I have a very old Motorola modem. Could that be the problem?

how far away are you from the router. and can you do a speed test on a laptop or something next to the router if you are further than a room away or if something is in the way

Your router supports gigabit... so no

Then why is my up and down speed way lower than advertised. No one is stressing my internet i'm the only on on it.

I did a speed test from right beside the router and from ethernet. Results didn't change but the ethernet was +4 mbps faster on down
