You planning on gaming? The PS4 doesnt output higher than 1080p for gaming so that will just be upscaled (aka not 4k).

But for Netflix, im not sure if the PS4 supports 4k netflix either.

the difference 4k will make for your PS4 is that your tv gets hotter while displaying the picture compared to a 1080p tv.

as for pc, with a similar price you can get a similar gaming experience, except here you can pay more to get more performance :P

seeing my GT640 could push 1440p60 in some games i feel like the pc side has a step ahead here. (take note, not running on max settings, neither is the console version of the game. if anything i was running higher...)

As you've probably gathered from the above posts, the PS4 cannot output higher than 1080p, so a 4k TV would be a waste of money.

If you don't game too much, don't need a powerful PC for anything else, and/or have a tight budget, the PS4 will be a good choice. It can also save you the hassle of putting things together and dealing with various PC related issues.

On the other hand, many games are PC only, and a PC is useful for much more than just playing games.

i7 4790k | MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition | G.Skill Ripjaws X 16 GB | Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB | 2x Seagate Barracuda 2TB | MSI GTX 970 Twin Frozr V | Fractal Design R4 | EVGA 650W

A gaming PC for your budget: $800 - $1000 - $1500 - $1800 - $2600 - $9001

A console is limited, yet very portable and more plug and play. This thus makes it easier for console kiddies to think that their PS4/Xbone is better... But its not m8.

A PC is not limited and can do things a console could never dream of, its just less portable.

The whole 4k thing with a console is straight crap, and so is running multiple monitors like in the movies on a console.
I could go on and on, but I choose not to.

Current rig :  |CPU: 2600K @ 4.8GHz|   |GPU: EVGA ACX GTX 980 @ 1.5GHz| |Ram: 16GB G.Skill Ripjaws X|   |Storage: Samsung 840 Pro 256GB, WD Blue 500GB, WD Black 1TB|  |Motherboard: AsRock Z68 Extreme4 Gen3|   |Cooler : Black Phanteks TC14PE (3 Corsair AF140s)|   |Power Supply : Thermaltake TPG-850M|  |Case: Phantom 410 Black|

well, i see a lot of people getting a $400 playstation, and squeeze a $600 laptop for school, that could go together in a $1000 laptop in a better experience on both gaming and school work.

if you dont need/already have a computer, and are looking for something strictly gaming, and dont have much more than a PS4 budget to spend, console is the way to go, but if you need both, spend all the money on one device that does both really well, instead of splitting over two devices that *sorta* does one thing.

ps4 will display the same on any screen that supports at least 1080p.

PC will display and perform differently depending on the screen.

4k tv does not matter for ps4; don't bother buying a 4k tv for your ps4

difference between 4k monitor and 4k smart tv are response times.

gt640 pushing 4k 60fps on a snes game i assume?

That card cannot do 3D well, except for games from 2005 and earlier.

In that case, it does not even matter/is not relevant since it is obvious it would run it at that resolution, even ps4 could do it if they wanted it to.

PS4 is locked at 1080p so technically it couldn't run 60 fps at 1440p :P

well, once you "learn" its limits, you can actually get quite a lot out of a GT640, it mostly hates anything related to raytracing so once you turn off shadows (oh, and they dont do AA either) its actually a very capable card.

and as for naming a big title, LoL actually ran completely maxed out except shadows and AA at 1440p 60fps smooth sailing troughout an entire game. (i cant play more than one game per month, or i start to hate humanity xD)

1440P is not 4K, and lol is CPU bound, not gpu.

its surprisingly far along the way to 4K, i'd hook up my 4k panel to it for the luls, but it doesnt have DP.

lol was the only one i've documented that well, because it was the only one where i had reason to do so.

it also gladly maxed out most of sauce engine games, trackmania stadium, did pretty well with FSX, civilization V, and a few other titles. and with "pretty well" i mean 1440p at a stabile 60fps, without making the game look like shyte.

source engine, aka engine from 2003/2004, it is not strange that the engine has no requirements, even an intel 4000 could do 4k with that engine xD

pull that GPU out of your rig and try, you'll be surprised.

I'm running a Ps4 on a curved 65 inch Sammy 4k tv and the upsacaling is GORGEOUS!!!!!!!

It really depends on the tv. Street fighter 5 and the last of us remastered will blow you away.

Hopefully the 70inch sharp 4k aquos I bought for my theatre will give me the same results.

Running my pc in 2k ultra wide and 4k really isn't that much better. I like the wider FOV

That probably because your tv is gorgeous, not because up-scaling is gorgeous.

cs:go, gta 5 are CPU bound games.

Far cry 3 is not demanding, and you probably play them sub ps3 settings as well (low/very low -if it has that) and probably 720P or even lower.

If you put it on ps2 settings, of course it will run.
