I'm running it on a 970 just fine. Playing on ultra and pretty sure it's been at a steady 60 fps so far.

 

People getting their titties twisted over AMD v Nvidia. Even if it was really running at 54-59 fps, can people really see the difference at that point?

ya both GTX 970 and R9 290 seem to be clearing 60fps so that's good...

So for whatever reason the only 700 series card they included was the 770 and that's what I have. That works.

Nvidia is probably slowly ramping down the quality of their drivers on the 700 and 900 series cards to get people ready to buy Pascal lol.

Really starting to not like how DF is doing things. They use a strix 390 that already goes up to 80*C on stock and then they complain about the card being bad. Load of bullshit about headroom as well. Its like they don't even know anything. A normal 390 can go up to 1100mhz++. 

 

In the last video, their excuse for not overclocking the 390 was that "it already puts out a lot of heat".

Well, at least they disclosed if the cards were OC'd or not. That way we know we can expect about a 10% improvement with a good OC on a 970 which would bring it about on par with the OC'd 390. 

 

My 980 has a decent OC on it (1459/7600) and it runs Primal within 5-10% of what Total Biscuit's Titan X was running. So I guess we could conclude that OC scale-ability in this game is not bad.

But.... It was an OC'd 390 and was running the game about 10-15fps faster than the stock clocked 970 (on average). That's about an 7.5-8.5% difference in performance (at the frame rates observed). An OC'd 970 should definitely be able to make up that gap, which would put it ahead of a stock 390. 

 

I'm not understanding your logic. Or am I missing something?

That was a stock 390 and 970 in the video. Nothing was overclocked. If you're confused about the part I quoted. DF remarked that the 390 is "basically an oc'd 290".

 

If anything were to be oc'd they'd state it like this in the hit man video:

What are you talking about? You can overclock a 970 around ~1500mhz and 390 only around ~1100mhz.

That is like 35% more headroom for the 970 and it will definitely perform +35% better.

Seems fine to me... The game just caches more information into the video memory if there's more headroom (Titan X).

From what I hear (having not played Primal yet) the difference in visual fidelity compared to Far Cry 4 running at similar settings is negligible at best. Having said that the massive difference in performance between the two games is baffling really. I understand they crammed some new "tech" into the new game but the fact of the matter is it seems pretty poorly optimized at this point in time and to draw any conclusions about what is the best performing card is kind of silly to me. 

IMHO Don't buy the game until they fix the issues with performance. Stop giving your money to a developer that releases half ass half baked software.

As a 700 series owner (specifically the 770) I have been and still am dissapointed with Nvidia. I have almost lost faifth in their products and how they stack up over time.

 

Unless some miraculous driver updates happen then I'm buying AMD cards from now on.

Judge a product on its own merits AND the company that made it.

A 390 card is not factory overclock he made a incorrect statement. A 390x is the factory overclocked version.

How is it leading the pack? The GTX980ti is still on top by a bit over the Fury X.

I'm getting a 980 Ti, glad to see it performs well at 1080p. Very excited to get one.

Hopefully but I highly doubt it since Nvidia has done the same thing with the Kepler series. GTX 680 vs HD 7970, the GTX 680 smashed the HD 7970 on release day but now the HD 7970 seems to come out on top.
