Are Mac computers really that bad?

The problem is I need a cable modem which supports bridged mode. I would need to get one trough my isp but they didn't have the model which supported that feature. (Cable modems aren't sold anywhere on the earth or they are priced higher than gold bars.)

I need to call them again and make them get me one so I can then just buy some decent router and have actually working wifi.

Having been on both sides of Windows vs Mac OS X, the Mac's lack of supported programs and price for performance ratio are the 2 things that can draw someone back.

For programming: lack of supported programs (mainly terminal) is on the windows side for me

For gaming: windows all day

The only thing bad about macs is their inability to have decent components for anything other than your average joe's uses such as internet browsing and saving your family photos. And also the price to performance ratio is god f*cking awful. 

 

I built my computer for $2000 dollars, and it has at least thrice the gaming power of the Mac with a similar price.

that's not necessarily true, linus himself said that though there were slight performance differences in the lower and mid tier computers, the high end macs stood pretty level with other high end pcs

Gaming is not what they are built for.   And for most the price to performance is pretty good.

You guys are so incredibly wrong I cannot even begin. Link me to one Mac desktop that is good for the price to performance, and I will murder it with a PC build. (Don't link the 5k mac, I am saying this because I specifically stated price to performance, not how much the screen costs)

So you are saying to not link computers that disagree with your pre formed conclusions?  

Fine.  Build a Mac Pro equivalent using the same components or similar.  So Xeons, Dual Fire Pro cards, small form factor, thunderbolt , etc.   Not a gaming computer.  A workstation with ECC memory.  

 

I started too and with just MB, Processor, Memory and a single SSD I was already well over 2000.

   Okay, what I said was their price to Performance is terrible. I didn't want you linking the 5k mac because its price to performance is terrible however the screen costs a lot and to build an equivalent would costs the same due to there being on one other monitor that is 5k and it is hell of expensive. So yes price to performance, not costs of the amazing screen they put on it that has nothing to do with its rendering performance.

 

   Now, link me the mac pro so I can try to match or better it for less.

You are cherry picking.  Ignoring what you don't like.   The screen is part of the package. 

 

That at is like saying my computer cost 1000 more than it actually did because of the display.

 

Are res you incapable of looking at the specs on apples website?   The only computer on the site I can find that doesn't match up price to performance wise for the parts used is the Mac mini.  And in that case you are paying a bit more for the form factor and low power usage

The mac pro is not bad. Its got a dedicated amd gpu and a decent processor 5th gen i7 i think

They use FirePro's cause they are designed for Workstation performance, not measly gaming performance that the 280X is intended for. FirePro's come with ton of display ports, super good VRAM, and are intended and made for doing workstation tasks, like rendering, editing, Autodesk, Adobe, all that kind of stuff. They're there for a reason, not just for extra cost. 

 

Its design is so different from other workstations, and Apple is correct in touting that when you buy this, it looks AMAZING, and unique and innovative cooling, and doesn't take up a ton of space.

 

Sure, you can build a better PC, but for a super powerful workstation with OSX natively, there is no better option. People buy it because of its power and workstation capabilities, not cause they are dumb enough to not build a PC.

I use Macs for programming and Windows for Gaming. I couldn't do it on windows. SO i bought a Corner desk, and have my gaming rig on one side and my MacBook on the other. Both 2 monitors of course

macbook only 1 screen gaming rig 2 screens  and i also have a corner desk (custom made)

I have an older (bout 4-6 or so years old) mac desktop. Don't ask why, it is a long story. OS wise, I love it. Very easy to work with, and a lot less holes than in windows. However, the os is not compatible with the majority of steam games, which is why I use bootcamp for my windows 7 pro xD. Hardware wise, it is crap by today's standards. Sound is fine, but everything else, not so much. In general, the majority of apple products are very overpriced, your paying a very high premium for an os and looks. Just not worth it IMO, considering how much better you can get if you build one for the same price. However, I can see why artsy people like them, because they are VERY easy to use straight out of the box, are pretty good for video/sound editing, and are geared towards them.

MacOSX is incredible...their hardware is an utter garbage money grab. I am sorry but I am not paying $400 extra for 32gb of DDR3 RAM. IOS is a different story. I like the iphone it feels solid and has some cool features, but my god it is pricey. Also IOS updates need to happen way more often. Everyday my phone has a stupid glitch like getting stuck in a menu with that swipe down or left stupidness. IOS 7 was the last good IOS and everything before that was stellar.

if you are gaming, stay away from macs. Making music and do something on the art side, go with macs. for rendering i rather choose PC because its cheaper(parts wise)

Its habitual. People who use macs are generally used to things a certain way, and the same goes for windows. I use windows because i was raised on it, and i have an Iphone because thats the mobile platform i was raised on aswell, despite the fact that the 6s cost me almost a grand and the layout sucks, i just like having ios and imessage because its something i know, not that its better.
