Now a days everything needs a driver update to make things run smoothly which is why I wasn't very surprised. Since it set in such a primitive era, I'm not surprise by the gameplay or choices made in the game. To that I think it looks boring and more grindy than other games in the series, which I'm not a big fan of. Game looks great considering youtube compression completely destroyed video quality. It just not for me, and I agree that TB was a little unreasonable with his impression of the game considering the time and place it was set in.

Well this game apparently doesn't need a driver update (from Nvidia or AMD) to run smoothly.  I guess the day one patch fixed that up nicely. 

 

Yeah, totally agree. It's not for everyone. I have FC3 but didn't play it much (just couldn't get into it). And I never bought or played FC4, so I'm still "fresh" to the series. That being said, I fine the setting and nature of the game to be quite interesting and different than most of what I've played before, so I think I will really enjoy it. 

 

And yeah, it looks WAY better in person than it does with all that detail compressed on YT.

Nvidia just dropped their game-ready drivers for Primal; GeForce 362.00 WHQL. So the game might run even better yet.

I've been losing interest in TB for this exact reason. He complained about the lack of 'realism' in The Division with the damage not being very serious when shooting someone with no armor (which is more appropriate for an RPG). Yet, like you pointed out, he completely forgets about 'realism' when talking about the number of weapons.

Goes to show that every game shouldn't necessarily be about 'realism' (or any other form of standard), but more so about understanding each game's individual atmosphere/setting/design.

I think TB's claim on lack of weapon in Far Cry primal as more to do with the fact that the weapon were bland, boring and not really exciting outside of the bow (but then gain they already had made the bow in previous far cry, so you're not getting anything new), and also for the: why should play primal after far cry 4, a game that costs just as much but offers way less.

I think his right, they could have done a lot more than this, just as TB suggested why not let you fight as one of the animals or take over your pet to combat the lack of weapon? because realism? in what way does using an owl as a drone sounds or looks realistic? how are bombs realistic in a prehistoric environment? why not had blow darts instead?

 

Anyway i already said that i'm on the Open world fatigue group so i don't particularly care, just wanted to give a piece of mind for those calling out on TB's weapons point

How moddable are these later Farcry games? Cause weapon variations and animations sounds like something that (albeit we shouldn't need to but regardless can) easily mod into the game.

Another update to OP: Users are reporting DRM connectivity issues (on Uplay's side) and they say it might be firewall issues.

Even though TB is good at pointing out poor PC version stuff, his tech-savvy-ness needs to be taken with a grain of salt since he has a gaming channel, not a tech channel. I'd more trust Digital Foundry since they do somewhat extensive benchmarking and research into issues.

TB has a new video out that he did with the new drivers and he says he's still getting poor performance, and even mentions he doesn't know how they're getting that kind of performance on a 970 or whatever it is other websites are reporting on.

 

I don't know who's right or wrong since I don't have the game myself, though.

I may be the only one but I'm enjoying the game. A Far Cry (<------- get it, Far Cry? Hahahaha... oh that was bad) from the typical run-n-gun shooter. The game to me looks beautiful. Very lush worlds and great atmosphere. I have no performance issues to speak of.

No doubt. I believe you, personally. I just hope the graphical fidelity justifies the performance loss.

I do occasionally get drops into the low-mid 60's, mainly hanging around 70's-low 80's. That's with everything absolutely maxed out, well except motion blur (hate it). I do have high end hardware which helps plow through any hiccups. For me at least, Far Cry and AC:Syndicate were good ports on day 1. Anything is better than Unity certainly. Ubisoft has done great 2 times in a row, for me at least.

In your opinion in regards to Syndicate, how different was it to Unity gameplay wise?

More bland, probably because crowds were much smaller and the streets were pretty bare. I haven't played too much of Syndicate to really go in depth. I think I've logged in about 4 hours so far, but I do like the story much more than Unity. And the fact you can change between characters (Jacob and Evie) is welcomed. Each has their own characteristics and skill set.

 

I will say that although Unity was one bugged as hell game, it was absolutely beautiful graphically. Syndicate is good in its own right, but Unity was something else. Probably part of the reason it ran like cow dung.

I was thinking about picking it up at some point because Unity didn't scratch my itch. I agree about it's visuals, though.

If you're not sure, I'd just wait til it goes on a Steam sale or whatever. I mean, its still the same style of game except with different characters. Assassin's Creed is one of my favorite currently running series and will always get a copy. But its understandable that it doesn't suit everyone. I wouldn't spend $40-50 on it; I'd wait til a good sale goes on then grab it.

I had 0 issues with performance and DRM. I've only managed to sneak in a couple of hours on it though. 

 

I'm going to go with user side issues for DRM like firewalls, etc.

Complains about 70fps average running ultra settings on a fairly demanding triple-A game. I honestly believe he just has it out for this game. There are plenty of other reviewers out there that have been enjoying it and don't think it's a bad game nor do they think it runs poorly.

You'd expect a bit more with 2 Titan X at 1080p.  Even with just one.

I don't like this, first XCOM 2 had issues, now FC primal. Not even mentioning Batman (oh guess I did now!)

 

This is just unacceptable!
