[UPDATED]First look at the FuryX2

DocSwag

Can't wait to see the card in action and in people hands to test. I will not be getting one however, saving up for the new generation of graphics cards for that sweet DXD12 support (better support that is).

I'm sure as hell looking up to this card being tested by LTT, Jayz2cents and others.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

That cable is probably the worst thing Thermaltake makes, and thats saying alot.

It's the cable that comes with their wall mount case(Cant remember the name) and pretty much everyone with that case i've seen has had to replace the cable.

It's also really cheaply made, the cable isn't even black it's gray with black tape on it.

Do you guys seriously think that's a Fury X2? There's nothing else there but a long card.

If it is a Fury X2, RIP AMD.

So you expect thermal solution the card for a twin GPU to be the same style as as a single GPU card?

From the images of the graphics card through the side of the case and they way a reference R9 390X looks like, that is a reference 390X. Stop saying its a Fury X2 when its clearly not. Lisa was holding one in her hand and there is no way that a card that small and with that PCIe connector layout+dual gpu pulling-over 350W would have that cooler installed on it.

No, i'm just saying that the box is a desktop...

It has a CPU with the Fury X2 for developers.

I present to you. Exhibit A: Radeon HD 5970
pcb_amd_radeon_hd5970_reference.jpg

5970.jpg

A dual GPU card.

Exhibit B: Fury X2
amd-radeon-fury-x2-card.jpg

A dual GPU Card.

Blower design doesn't seem that far fetched to me. Especially if they do what they did with the R9 390/X at launch where nobody had reference designs.

Older Dual GPU Cards

For reference here is a R9 295x2

a HD 6990

I'm just saying the PCB of the fury x2 layout wise shares more with the 5970 than it does with the 295x2, 7990 and 6990.

You have to consider that the power connector is in a odd place for it to be a blower o.O

Also, the fact that it is identical in appearance to an R9 390X reference.

Yep. Either this is the Fury X2, and it means the design of the PCB has been changed from Lisa Su's sample so as to fit with a blower cooler, OR this is a single GPU card, most likely a 390X due to the similar appearance of the Cooler as @Dabombinable and many other remarked.
OR could it be a tease for Polaris ? I mean yes the new lineup is supposed to be released later this year (starting April), but that wouldn't refrain AMD from dispatching developer kits now.

I consider this being the FuryX2 to be unlikely, since lately, dual GPU cards seem to opt out for the classical form of blower cooler, to an hybrid water/open cooler or fan-in-the-middle blower cooler. For instance, look at the ARES and MARS series from ASUS, the HD 6990, the Titan Z, the R9 295x2.
So considering the above, I'd say it's most likely to be a 390X or a higher GPU (a R9 Fury non-X ?) or a newer GPU (Polaris).  BUT HEY THAT'S JUST A THEORY.

Yes, and you can determine the gpu length with that very unclear picture. Though if you're still not getting my point, the 390x isn't the only card with that design.

For you to say it looks identical to a 390x is kinda far fetched.

For VR ? I think the chances they put a 390 in these developper kits are pretty slim, and a 380 is a no go for VR. VR requires a great deal of perfs, so I would hardly see them put anything below a 390x.

Look, the 390 uses a cut down version of the Hawaii GPU found in the 390X. Ergo all that varies between the cards is the GPU+bios, everything else is the same.
