Good Laptops Between $1000 and $1500

Hi. I am looking for a good gaming laptop in the range of $1000 to $1500 and I am having a bit of trouble narrowing it down to just one. Does anybody have any recommendations? Thanks,

Noah

Lenovo Y700 dominates the 1000-1200$ market. I'd suggest that + a good M.2 SSD to go along

Thanks! They have both been added to my list.

Be sure to pay attention to thermals. A poor cooling solution on a 970M can result in the card performing worse than Intel HD 4600

Just a few headers.

Avoid Acer Nitro series - poor cooling, poor build, poor customer support
Avoid Asus 15.6' laptops, even RoG - poor cooling, poor build, extremely bad customer support

Indeed do! High temps can shorten a GPU's life significantly

Basically, look for a moderately thick laptop, so as to have decent fans and look for copper heatsinks preferably

If you've followed my posts carefully you'd see I also recommend the Inspiron 7559 and MSI's GE62/72 laptops quite often and I've also linked the sources to my claims against Asus and Acer mainly.

It all depends on the budget. For 800-900$ budgets I say Inspiron. For 1000-1200 I say Y700. Above that you either go for the MSI or for a Clevo

If we are going to cite customer support as a detriment then Lenovo is not an exception.

Edit:

Avoid Acer Nitro series - poor cooling, poor build, poor customer support

Instead of making generalizations, I'm going to link to a full review. The Acer Nitro certainly isn't perfect but it's not what I would call Poor quality.

The same goes for Asus laptops, they tend to be made of plastic, and while that gives a less premium feel it certainly doesn't qualify poor build quality. And the thermals on most newer Asus models are actually pretty respectable(not going over 100F, unlike the y700 which hits 110F).

What everyone needs to realize is that every laptop is different. They all come from different engineering teams which value different things. So ultimately you'll probably have to look at all of the options and see which factors are most important to you.

My MSI GE72 Apache Pro-242 is probably the best laptop I've ever had. It's usually $1400 dollars USD, but I got mine at a discount for $1200 new. It has an i7-5700HQ, GTX 970M, a ton of ram and storage, and generally looks cool with the nice IPS 1080p 17.3 inch screen. Runs games flawlessly, I feel the 970m is pretty much the best in mobile cards, the 980m is marginally better and not usually worth the extra price unless you get one of those 4K laptops and whatnot. Also, the Razer Blade Stealth is a great choice, and the Alienware ones are good if you are willing to spend a little more for the same performance with cool aesthetics.

MSI GE72 Apache Pro-242 - (5700HQ : 970M : 16gb RAM : 17.3" : Win10 : 1TB HDD : Razer Anansi : Some mouse) - hooked up to a 34UM58-P (WFHD) in dual screen

iPad Air 2 (for school)

iPhone 6

Xbox One Forza 6 Limited Edition Blue
