Really? Maybe with your games but most of my games can be set to bring a 980ti to its knees. I could use two easy. 

Not only do you have DSR that allows you to run the game at a higher resolution than is native to your monitor, but you have games like Witcher 3 that eat a graphics card for lunch even at 1080p. 

And don't use the optimization excuse, please. If you want to compromise on your gaming experience go right ahead. For those that want to play every game worry free you have the 980ti.

1. Don't have to, they will want to have the ability to game freely.
2. Yes, unequivocally. Why buy a graphics card on the edge of usefulness only to have to quickly replace it? Better to spend a little more for one that will give you what you want.
3. No, it's an excuse for those with priorities other than their rig to validate why they can't run their games they way they want without taking responsibility themselves.

I'm sorry, but go look up the raw performance data of the GTX 980. 

 

If programs could 100% utilize that, that card could run ANYTHING.

I did, which is why I bought a 980ti. 

Look, if you want a budget PC that's fine. But don't spread misinformation. A 980ti can be fully utilized with a 1080p monitor in almost every game out currently through the use of DSR. I play ROTTR at 1440, big difference between that and straight 1080p. Try running ROTTR at 1440 with all the sliders to the right. I get a solid 60fps. Let me know what you get.

I went double down on a 989ti Hybrid. Almost silent and never goes over 55c even when overclocking

You're running max setting, nothing is set below the maximum available setting? Or are you running high setting? And do you have DSR set to allow you to run it in 1440? Try it.
