Honestly, your card is fine.

If I was you, save the money and get a second 280, or just wait for Pascal and see what they bring to the table.

980ti

SLI is garbage.

As a user running SLI, I disagree.

The 970 SLI is the fastest option, however it's only faster than the 980 Ti by 5-10%. Marginal by most standards. You're better off going with the 980 Ti on the basis that it will be easier to upgrade in the future, as well as consuming less power and outputting a lot less heat.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

No offense but the GTX 980 has almost no reason to exist. The R9 Nano or R9 Fury perform similar or better for the same price , a R9 390x can cost $50-$100 cheaper for 5% less performance.

390 performs better or same as a 970.

What games, what settings, what resolution?

If you must upgrade now i'd say a R9 390 or a 970, however as Moondrelor suggested, i'd probably wait to see what the upcoming GPU's have to offer.

1080p, it rocks at 1080p. So if you're going to play at 1080p the 980 is one of the best cards there is, for 1080p.

Keep the R9 280 and save up for a screen upgrade or wait for the next generation GPUs to come out, a r9 280 is enough for 1080p as it is.

Still overkill the 970/R9 390 can max out games at 1080p with better value to money.

the worst sli combination you could possibly run are 2 GTX 970.

A lot of power, but 3,5 gb of Ram.. Even with ONE gtx 970 that can be not enough in some games/settings.

FPS/$ it's not the best, now the R9 Nano holds that title. Costs $499 USD.

I used to be quite active here.

Good choice!

Also always try to go with a single powerful card opposed to two in SLI/CROSSFIRE.

Secondly, waiting for the 14nm/16nm GPUs is most likely worth it.

Not at 1080p, the fury and nano trip over their own feet at 1080p. The 980 beats them both at that resolution. But now you can play at 1440 with a 1080p monitor with graphics cards from both Nvidia and AMD so it somewhat mute. But if someone wants to run games at 1080p the 980 is the winner.

The 980 is overpowered for 1080p, its more of a 1440p killer.

it's not...even the 980ti is not a 1440p killer...

if you want to run games on ultra settings for a couple years...and not be forced to turn down settings in 2016...the GTX 980 is an amazing choice for 1080p gaming...it will last longer and will play games better than a GTX 970 or a 390.

Doesn't matter, nothing is overkill. I game at 1080p with a 60hz monitor and have a 980ti. But I don't have to make any sacrifices in settings.

Ordered my EVGA Hybrid this morning, and thanks!

ohhh boy you'll enjoy this sooo much...good softwares, good drivers...you'll see the feeling of being informed by nvidia experience that a new game ready driver is out in which they optimised performance for 2 or 3 new games that will be coming out in a few days...games you didn't even had any idea they we're about to come out...and having your card perform the way it's supposed to in games from day one...very good stuff mate!

Is that the card with the corsair liquid cooler on it? or is it a cheap ass asetek or cooler master units they put on there?

being EVGA i would assume it's a good corsair aio since these guys care about cusomer services and they know they WILL have to deal with that shit is the coolers die within the first few years of use right.

It's EVGA's own cooler, why I went with it over the Seahawk. The EVGA uses a specific cooler meant for a GPU verses the Corsair used on the MSI which is meant for a CPU.

EVGA's CLC is supplied by Asetek and was previously showcased in our CES coverage.

It's asetek's cooler, but that does not mean it's bad it can be an updated ',tuffer'' version of their world famous flimsy cooler made for EVGA...knowing EVGA as a company it CANT' be bad or unreliable...it just can't.

I would rather go with the MSI card seing that legendary corsair cooling unit on their though...but EVGA for customer services are way way way up there so might as well go with that, good choice!

The fan on the MSI for the cooler must be connected to the motherboard verses the EVGA which has the radiator fan connected to the graphics card. Little things like that had me go EVGA. Plus the EVGA reasons you listed.

If anyone asks you never saw me.
