Nah man, according to some people on here you need a 18-core Xeon just to boot-up your system

what are they, homeless?  I think we can afford more than a petty 4 monitors here...

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

I tried to keep it practical. They had a monitor for every use, one for the weather, one for Facebook.etc

Find some Pentium or i3 AIO, you don't have much to plug in and it's easier for them to transport. Also one less thing under the table to kick over

Follow the topics you create using the "Follow" button in the top right corner!

One day I will have my GTX 970. One day. PC specs are at my profile.

Not sure how to check what part works with what? Check out my compatibility guide!

You could also try Intel NUCs or the Gigabyte BRIX, they are freaking tiny and powerful for the size!

Agreed on an APU, mostly as even though your parents won't be gaming at all, Intel's "HD Graphics" solutions are by and large crap anyway.

if they're not gaming though, even sandy bridge integrated graphics are more than enough... and they've improved a lot since then.  I would pick a CPU based on the merits of the CPU in this case since anything with graphics at all will be good enough.

I would recommend a pre-built as it comes with a warranty and o/s. But if one really wants custom, something like the following should be more than enough.

80+ ratings certify electrical efficiency. Not quality.

I know you can buy a $30 AMD CPU, but they really are dirt slow even for web apps. Remember, old people are impatient and if there is any lag they just start aggressively clicking everywhere.

Because google chrome LOVES RAM. My PC uses ~6GB of RAM just trying to run a few tabs of google chrome. On top of that 8GB doesn't cost much more compared to buying a 4GB stick.

I don't know what you are doing, but mine uses 3.5GB with ~10 tabs open(Wikipedia, Facebook and google translator). It has win 7 ultimate x64 and 16gb ram(more is always better)
