Lian Li revealed a yacht theme aluminium case- PC-Y6

snowComet

Lian Li has been releasing special edition cases, which having unusual appearances like train, seashell, or even the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. On 31st of Dec, Lian Li revealed the PC-Y6, a yacht theme aluminium case, which will also exhibit in CES 2016.

y6-main-1.jpg

Same as the train theme PC-CK101, the PC-Y6 is a mini-itx case, without any 5.25" drive bay. The case only comes in silver or white. Due to space limitation in the PSU chamber, you can only use SFX psu, but it can accommodate a graphics card up to 300mm, which means you can even put a reference GTX 980Ti in it. Unfortunately there is only one fan mount for a 120mm fan, and from its position (under the graphics card chamber) it seems you would have some difficulty in mounting and routing the radiator.

Same as PC-08, it has a "LED RGB Color Changing Kit", which you can change the color of the LED lights from showing red, green or blue. You can change the color via the knobs on the rear of the case.

Pricing and availability is still TBA.

Too bad it doesnt support water cooling.

Would look so much better if it was a continuation of those semi-circles down to the base, instead of having a boat at the bottom.

I think you could do a custom loop, but with much difficulty....

or you could try to fit Corsair's Hydro Series™ H5 SF Low-Profile Liquid CPU Cooler in it.....

I'm not a fan of themed or open air cases in general, but dare I say this actually looks kinda nice? Wouldn't buy it in a hundred years of course, but still... :)

I wonder if it floats...

i bet it floats but will it blend?

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

is that, a 2.5" HDD?  why!?

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

but why on earth would they demo it like that?  put in an SSD or something... and adding RAM and a PSU wouldn't hurt either :P

Theres no mounting positions for a rad, and the case is too small for the h5-sf

Do they actually sell well though?  I'm having trouble imagining the market for this; if we take the people who care enough about computers to want that crazy of a "case", and take the people who would want this over something also cool looking but way more practical, I'm not sure there is much if any overlap

I agree that these cases aren't practical, but for the most part these are showpiece cases rather than actual consumer products. They are simply meant to stand out among the other booths and get free press attention and stuff like that. And even if they do decide to sell it, it will be sold at a hefty premium and have a limited run. Worst case scenario: When Lian Li combines free advertisement, cost of R&D and materials, they at least break even.
