yeah, but low multisingle-core is what hurts 8350 the most. it's what drags it down to i3 level in games and general responsiveness.

Where? I see $167 as the lowest on PCPartPicker, which is uncomfortably close to what locked Core i5's go for, let alone what you could put together an i3-6100 system for.

 

The FX-8350 is all-or-nothing. If you're using your rig for only the specific applications where the 8350 does inexplicably well (and yet you aren't a professional who'd rather have an i7), sure, go for it. But for every benchmark that shows the FX-8350 doing something right, I can link one where it struggled to keep pace with an i7-3770 three years ago. If your PC is going to have any sort of mixed workload, there's usually a better choice.

fixed, 4690k does better on x264, which is the most common format for video at the moment.

Actually, streaming also loves dem cores.

 

My 8350 beat my friend's i5-4590 in all of those tasks, besides gaming. We didn't do rendering, though, but as everybody knows rendering loves dem cores.

 

More cores is way better for multi-tasking, a lot like hyperthreading is. That's why i7's beat it (the 8350,) but most i5's don't.

ds3p is not a good motherboard for overclocking and you need a cooler to OC and you still won't reach xeon level of performance.

If that's the minimum then it works fine. A cooler to OC? I'm sitting at 4.5Ghz on a Hyper 212 EVO, and while I'll never know the true temperature (you know, it guesses temps since it doesn't have a thermometer) Core Temp says I sit around 62-64C while playing Fallout 4, and 66C while running Aida64.

 

Also, you're still spending $70 less. Would you really expect $70 of performance to come out of nowhere?

 

I think it performs about $70 less. You could also get a 990FX motherboard for about $90, and it would still be cheaper than the Xeon/B85. That's what I run.
