Who here wants to see Linus build a  super Cluster Computer using 100 Odroid UX4 boards and put it to work?

Why not? He has shown himself to be more than capable using something like Beowulf.

Your right. All he needs now is a few billion dollars to build one. Although, on second thoughts- as feasible as it would be, I can't be arsed to watch the 6 series over 15 years it would take for the build log..

 

That board is $80. Where are you getting billions from?

thats not a super computer thats a cluster computer their is a difference

Linking loads of little computers together would be a good interesting video, I've often wanted to do something like that myself but never had the time or money to invest into it.

He has spent more than that on other projects. Hell, he might even get them donated (i doubt 100 of them). Maybe he can use it for Folding or something. I have no idea how power efficient it would be though.

I might go with a different choice in hardware, but I would be happy with any type of cluster computer. What he should do is make one capable of running BOINC projects and have it join the linustechtips team  :D

I'd love for Linus to do something similar. I did it with 2 raspberry pis using TinkerNut tutorial and it was ok, it just wasn't very powerful so it was very limited.

As a cluster computing sever user, I'd love to see this done. I feel that it might not be applicable to most of the audience in this way, so I think a mis-mash beowulf cluster would be more applicable, maybe giving ideas to some of the audience what they could  do with all of the old PC's lying around.

For price reasons, i would think raspberry pi's woupd be better suited.

Have you priced those blade enclosures before? They are insanely expensive. Even for a $100 billion company here, they are not worth the price.

I actually like watching them create these "Season" or Epics of big builds. Makes it more like a TV Show and this stuff is a helluva lot more entertaining that anything on cable. I do agree with having scheduled releases though. But for experimentation stuff... that you can take your time on.

I'd like to see him (or someone else) do case mods using Arduino. Like RGB LED lighting or fan control or something.

I was actually thinking about doing the RGB Lighting myself.

I don't know whether that fits within any of their skill sets though.
