Are used processors a thing?

I thought once you mounted a processor to a motherboard it couldn't be taken out otherwise it would be useless. Are used processors a thing? Thanks.

Yes they most certainly are, you can take out & put in as many CPU's as you like provided you don't mess up the pins.

 

My board has already seen a 4790k's, 1 4770k, a G3258 and 4690.

It's a physical part that can be removed and re-used no problem.

Yes, they are all over ebay and not useless whatsoever. I've had two friends buy used processors off ebay and they have been perfectly fine.

Of course, you can find many used CPU's on EBay or on Craig's List.

Once you close the socket clamp, the motherboard assimilates the CPU using Borg licensed technology and they become one.

 

(Seriously though, be careful and you can reuse a chip as much as you like)

Not true in the slightest. Used CPUs are very much a thing.

my 4770K was 3 months old used when i bought it, my 980ti was also about 2 months old.

to be fair if it's a BGA processor then those can't be removed like most laptops these days and some SFF PCs.
