Samsung 850 evo

Is the evo a good ssd for gaming? I know that's a broad question however I was wondering how it fairs because it's fairly cheap for 500 gigs right now on Newegg. This would be a boot drive/ some of my more played games drive.

yep, user benchmarks have the samsung 850 pros/evos at the top

atlhough some games dont have much of a loading time difference (ex. 2K)

games like Fallout 4 which took me minutes to load, now load in seconds

It's a great drive, buy it, I have full confidence in it.

As an owner of the 120GB version, I can tell you it gets the job done at a fairly reasonable price point paired up with 5 years of warranty. Definitely an SSD worth getting.

I have a 250GB one and it's great for cutting down load times and fixing issues like texture pop that are common in some games while on a hardrive, and as Morgan MLGman said it has a 5 year 75TB (<-------how much data it's rated for over it's lifetime) warranty

i think its the most recommended SSD on these forums, when ever someone asks help choosing an SSD / build templates its always the 850 evo... in what ever size... but yeah 500 gb is good enough for me and what i do...

Last I heard, may be fixed now though, is that the Evo's had a problem with deteriorating performance over time. its why I went with the Pro over the Evo for my 1TB drive.

 

might be worth looking into.

I had a 120 prior to my 1TB, its fine for the OS and a couple games yes.

120GB plenty for gaming?

I use it for OS and some basic games like LoL and CS:GO so they load a little faster, it's enough for this kind of games, not really for like 30-40GB The Witcher 3 or something like that cause you could put like 1-2 games similar to TW3 on it + OS and it would be nearly full.

Keep in mind that an SSD only increases map/texture loading time, not the actual performance of games. I keep my games on HDD cause I didn't feel like spending much more for basically no performance gains...

That was the 840 series, I do believe. I think so anyways, because I was told by a few people to update the firmware on my 840 EVOs.

hmm, how about games like bf4, gta5, crysis3, assassin's creed syndicate on 250 GB SSD and 1TB hardware?

Yeah, a 250GB SSD is the most reasonable as for today (if you think that a 120GB is not enough, otherwise the 120GB is the best choice)

I understood, the Evo is good. Been lookin at the 500GB version. (not much care about the free Assassign Creed Game)
