Can my old pc support RX 6800?

Hello, so recently I've bought this used rx 6800 for a potential new build but i'd like to also use it in my current pc as well and it's old

my psu is 600W and the gpu requires (or not) 2 power cables to it, mainly I worry about something bad happening like the gpu frying itself or something

I'd appreciate any help, thanks

What exact make and model PSU? Rest of the system specs?  
 

The GPU “frying itself” isn’t really a concern I’d have if it’s a decently competent PSU.

Certainly not a brand of PSU i'd put in a system, personally. The Redwing line (of which your model is part of) isn't even rated. Everything else is primarily E and C tier with one B. I'd want that out of my system before I put in a fancy new GPU, however 600W is AMD's recommendation for RX6800 (250W stock TGP) (assuming that's what you have an not an XT). 

 

It'll probably be fine, but use that PSU at your own risk.

Looks like 480W for 12V. So maybe fine if that is accurate. That cpu is a bit like dogshit these days too for most games so maybe better to swap all parts.

By the way does it matter if it's only one cable connected to the GPU?

It matters if

  • It refuses to produce an output image without both connectors attached
  • It is unable to reach 100% load or the advertised boost frequency with just one connector attached (assuming no CPU bottleneck)

 

User is expected to connect every available power socket on the card.

 

The GPU will not fry itself. Just like how your phone does not fry itself when you are charging it off the mains which could be drawing power from a nuclear power plant

yeah it doesn't boot with one pcie cable, anything i can do? cuz i cant find any other ones

Get a higher tier psu. If you dont have the connectors needed, your psu was not meant to handle cards of that tier.

Adapters are questionable but doable within their operational spec on lower end cards in general. Nobody is gonna bat an eye on a molex to 6 pin adapter used on something like an rtx 3050.

But an RX 6800 is a fairly power hungry card, you want a PSU thats designed to handle it.

Let's go bottleneck! I don't know if an overclock to it's limit can help. And the 600 watt but not really 600 watt on the 12v rail PSU that you have may be questionable.
