Wanna give this to my girlfriend, who's using a 4k phillips tv, but with the included speakers, while her two 150$ speakers lay in the basement cause her last amp died 6 months ago... The sound phisically hurts me. Please make it stop Linus.

A new Samsung Galaxy S5 for my mom, she's still using a Motorola Citrus.

Link : http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Galaxy-S5-Verizon-Wireless/dp/B00IZ1XVAC/ref=sr_1_2?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1449742166&sr=1-2&keywords=galaxy+s5

Little story about the Motorola Citrus that she has, my aunt (Who works at T-Mobile) got it for her on Christmas and they were both astonished by the camera, (which was even potato for the time)

Thanks LTT :^)

Id like to gift my best friend the EXACT item in the video.

He is not very tech savvy but loves music and pretty much listens to it 24/7 and he currently has a wireless speaker setup which is on its way out!

He throws the best house parties and so something simple to use (and the fact you can connect it wireless-ly) would be the most perfect gift.

The amazon link : http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sonos-CONNECT-Wireless-Hi-Fi-formerly/dp/B001G7PLTQ/ref=sr_1_8?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1449742180&sr=1-8&keywords=sonos

Also I am in the UK but would HAPPILY pay for shipping if required!

Also do more videos like this, tech gifts for non-tech people under $300 or something like that (or maybe do it under$300, under $200 etc as sections of the video).

Samsung SSD for my dad's computer, it's still using a old 500GB hard drive for boot, storage etc and it's really slow. He mostly uses it to stream tv shows but does other things as well, browsers and other programs take awhile to load so this should speed things up.

The Gift: HP Stream 13.3-Inch http://goo.gl/N3DJAG

The Who: This gift would go to my mo

The Why She's been using an 8 year old laptop running Win XP and I think she deserves an upgrade as she's constantly frustrated with it nowadays. Plus, it's all what she would ever need and compact/light.  ^_^

Thanks for this generous giveaway and hope you all have amazing holidays!  :)

Cheers!

There is only one contender for the ultimate non-techie gift. Every single one of you with a backwards granddad, a lost and confused mom, or a sibling who can't help but destroy your setup.... should have.

A sturdy, well designed, considerately styled Universal Remote

Here's another one, just because link redundancy is great - similar model.

Everyone in this room just rolled their eyes at this notion. You have to have one.

First, the color. Somehow it's cheaper on amazon in white - probably because nobody who buys a universal remote and knows how to program it would get such a gawdy, bland, mac-inspired thing. But this isn't for those tech geeks.

This is for the non-techie. The one that see's a remote and considers it an errant piece of garbage suddenly encroaching on their personal space the moment its task has been fulfilled. This is the remote you can find again because while it may be stuffed in your couch, under a table itself, and in between the arm rest and the seat... it's impossibly blistering white. You can't miss it.

Furthermore, this links to your phone. The only piece of technology my mom, personally, has ever managed to use for a purpose other than its most basic functions - in this case, mahjong. She started playing mahjong. The clouds opened up and the world felt new, alive. My god there was hope. You can make that phone be the remote, make it nearly impossible to lose forever. They even communicate so one can find another. Genius. No more fighting over remotes either - almost everyone in the room will have one. That solves the biggest problem - can a remote survive being flung across 10 feet of living room? A question you'll never need to ask again.

Here's the best part - fancy dandy touch screen? Hey that's great. Really. But it doesn't matter. What matters is that on the remote, THERE ARE NOT 8 MILLION BUTTONS. 90% of my mom's usage, or anyone else's usage, is gonna be those buttons right there. The touch screen? A fun distraction but basically might as well not exist unless I'm programming it. That's perfect. PERFECT.

Because all the "don't touch" buttons are right there, hidden away tucked safely in a confusing touch screen display nobody non-tech savvy is going to be interested in. Use the fear. When it's done being programmed, it will be done. It won't need anything else.

Furthermore this is a logitech product. Sure, they tend to make cheaper products and sell them at a decent markup - but never, in my entire life, have I had a logitech device not do what it was supposed to, and when it inevitably broke, they sent a new one no questions asked. Didn't even have to return the old stuff - legendary warranty policies. Legendary.

This thing works for everything. Gas fireplaces? Done. Thermostat? Done. Security system? Done. You can do that all through your phone, the only item guaranteed to be prioritized above any other object.

Sure, $200+ is a lot for a universal remote. But I bet anyone here who has ever, EVER bought a universal remote thinking it would solve all their problems was sorely mistaken. Because we all bought that budget universal remote and went nearly insane finding new use-cases where a poor user could break it, redefine inputs, or simply have it not stop working or losing signal strength. Spend the money. This isn't something you want to jerry rig - this is an object that, if you were to die suddenly in a fire that started from your quad-sli gtx titan rig exploding in your face, your mom, dad, sibling could call Logitech and those tech support guys would go, "Well, they did buy a $200 remote, let's make sure we help them". You want to help your granddad who's teaching your mom to use a remote by making it have the functions it needs, the usability, and sturdiness of a design ethic that says....

"We want this to be the last universal remote you ever have to vaguely teach anyone to use again. We want you to be able to program this so that you can hand your folks 1 sheet of paper that will tell them how to do everything"

"Everything"

"Freaking Everything Remote".

*sigh*

Ok I'm done ranting. If anyone has ever sacrificed themselves painstakingly over one of these things.... they know. Oh they know.

Oh, one last thing. Surge protect the hub for these suckers. That's what happened to my last setup using a set of switches to change A/V. It was perfect. Pristine. A work of art. I had it all setup to physical buttons to exchange inputs - it was beautiful, simple.

God will laugh at your planning.

He will laugh and throw lightning nearby your house to smite your wild ambitions. I know. OH HOW DO I KNOW. That poor a/v switch... one blip and K.O.. This is better anyway - you shouldn't add anymore cables anyway. Inevitably, your tech-unfriendly user will think something is setup wrong, and then attempt to mess with the TV's settings, instead of just using the remote. For clarity's sake, hubs encourage people to think about the setup AND the normal remotes, which invites more confusion. Stick to a remote.

My dad loves watching all sorts of sports, netflix, amazon, you name it, but right now he has a super long hdmi running from his computer in the other room to the tv, to get netflix and stuff. His graphics card is so old the hdmi won't send audio to the tv, so he just cranks up his computer's speakers.

I think he could really benefit from something like a Roku box so that he can keep all that stuff in one place without cords all over the house.

I would get my girlfriend the a pair of Sennheiser Game ones. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00JQDOALC?keywords=sennheiser%20g4me%20one&qid=1449742469&ref_=sr_1_1&sr=8-1

She spends a lot of time on her computer, listening to music while doing work for uni and occasionally hops on to play games with my friends and I. Right now she doesn't have any decent headphones, she uses an AWFUL set of turtle beaches (I think the cheapest model from them) when we play games and they are literally the most uncomfortable thing I've ever worn on my head.

I picked myself up a pair of the Game Ones over the summer and they're brilliant! Really the best sound quality I've ever heard from a gaming headset and they're so comfortable you can forget they're even on. I think she'd really appreciate a gift like these as it'd make her life much more comfortable and we'd have more fun playing games together because she'd get less frustrated if she wasn't wearing a vice on her head.

Nvidia Shield Tablet:

I've always wanted to get my mum a tablet, so she can stop reading messages and look at photos from our relatives on the tiny old iphone 4 screen. Unfortunately I'm only just looking towards graduation, I'm no where near close to being able to afford an usable tablet for her. She's your classic tech illiterate mum haha, so the device has to be running smoothly and displays things nice and clearly. She really has done everything for me and my sister. Raising us with minimal support from my dad, putting up with me and my sister's nonsense. She's only just taking her first proper vacation after one and a half decade. Not only that, she's taking me along. Paying for my ticket, paying for my expenses... I really have nothing to repay her with. I can't express how much she's done for me and my sister, so I really want to make her life a little bit more comfortable, where ever I can.

PC Specs:

CPU: Intel Core i7-4770K (Stock Speed)  Motherboard: Asus Z97 Sabertooth Mark-S  Memory: 4x8GB Klevv GENUINE DDR3 1600MHz GPU: EVGA GTX 550Ti PSU: Corsair RM850

I would buy my sister some Beyerdynamic DT-990's. I am sick of watching her listen to music through her tablets crappy backwards facing speakers. I think she deserves to be able to listen to it using quality audio head-ware. Her alternative method of enjoying her music are her $5 pink headphones from the reject box from Dick Smith. She is quite into her music, but would never buy anything decent for herself, or allow my to buy these for her.

5 port usb charging station will be something i will give to my girlfriend.(Yes i know it cost merely 30bucks. But i highly doubt linus can ship it to me before Christmas.I live in South east asia FYI)

Just cannot stand it when she has a ton of devices and all the multiplugs are filled with different chargers connectors. I'm sure this will organise the cables better.

i would buy a non techie a logitech g27. Since i know someone that loves his driving games but is currently using a keyboard, this wheel would be good for him and it'll give him a realistic feel just the way he wants it to be.

Last year I bought my Mom (an accountant who spends all day typing) a mechanical keyboard. She uses it everyday and loves it. She has told me she went back to her old keyboard and couldn't stand the mushy typing.

Another great gift is if you have someone with an iPhone who hates the battery life (like my Dad and the rest of the world) a battery bank could make a great gift.

I plan on getting my Dad this one for Christmas
