Tech Gifts for Non-techies Giveaway!

I would give a Sonos amp to mom, because she back in the days has a badass amplifier with a really good speakers, that my dad left, but now the amplifier burned out and we can't find someone that can fix it so she have a pair of good speakers on the living room just to remember him. It would be great to put them to work again. It would be the best Christmas gift to her.

My dad love reading books. Everywhere in our house, you'll find just books. So I want to gift him a Kindle Paperwhite (210$ in amazon.in) this Christmas. I think he'll love it. He'll literally be able to take hundreds of books with him anywhere he goes. And also no more stacks of paper books in the house. So, Mom will be happy too  :D .

Really cool idea for a contest!

If I had the disposable funds I'd setup a reliable, easy to use wireless network for my parents. Right now they are using a hodgepodge of various old Linksys routers as access points to try and get a decent signal through their house. But between the signal dropouts, dead zones, and just plain old networking issues it's a nightmare to troubleshoot when it goes down (which is frequently).

I'd set them up with a Google OnHub Wireless Router to replace their old WRT54G, and finally stop the frantic calls to me whenever “the internet won't load”.

I'd like to give my nephew a decent graphics card for his system. He's a 11-year-old gamer, but he has a crappy system. Therefore, he still prefers his Xbox than his PC. A GTX 960, I think, will change his mind.

My parents are still using a Time Capsule as a wireless router, then are using two AirPort Expresses connected wirelessly as "wireless extenders." The hard drive in the Time Capsule is reaching the end of its MTBF, so I want to replace the WD Green drive (it is used 24/7, and Apple put the Green in, not me) with a WD Red hard drive. I also want to fix the horror that is the AirPort Expresses, so I'm getting a Ubiquiti NanoBeam NBE-5AC-19 wireless access point and three flat white Ethernet cables.

HTC One M8 for my Dad.

He's still using a Nokia C5 brick running Symbian.

I cringe every time he sends a text - it takes like 5 minutes.

What's more, he uses his phone every day for work and could be heaps more efficient with a better phone.

I've seen Linus' positive reviews on this phone and many others.

It doesn't do everything, but it does what it does well.

Dad would really benefit from this phone.

My girlfriend for 9years is an non-techie, while I'm here sitting behind my two screen PC..

But she does love her books - and oh boy are we running out of space in my 55m2 apartment.

So from there I think she would benefit and enjoy the most ; Amazon Kindle Voyage 6" (wifi versio).

.co.uk : http://www.amazon.co.uk/High-Resolution-Display-Adaptive-PagePress-Sensors/dp/B00IOY524S

Naturally the co.uk would be better option for me _if_ I'd be one of the lucky ones.

Apple iPad Mini  for my Mom.

She is not into computers but often needs to use Skype to call her sister or father (since they lives in a different country and phone calls are expensive). I've seen her use other apple products and it seamed she really liked them, especially the ones with touchscreen. I think an iPad would be easy for her to use and would make her explore the internet / world a bit more.

I would like to give my little sister an Nvidia GeForce GTX 960 4GB from EVGA. She can be a bit of a PC gamer but she has no idea how to upgrade the innards of her hardware. I just hope Australians can enter.

My foreign grandparents live with us and they still watch the romanian news and old movies on a box TV. My grandmother is starting to get headaches because of it. We tried to set it up on our flat screen but they said it was to big. So it would mean a lot to them to buy them a Sylvania SLED3215A 32 inch.

I would like to get my brother a new headset, the one I would probably choose would either be Logitech g933 or g633

http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Spectrum-Wireless-Surround-981-000585/dp/B0148NPJ78/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1449748727&sr=8-1&keywords=logitech+g933

(Logitech g933)

Want him to get a new headset, because of the fact he still uses his old, old headset he bought from back in 2007.

A monitor for my dad. He uses a 17" $120 thing from officeworks when his CRT died, and uses it because he hates waste. It is tiny (he uses it for work from home and would benefit from more real estate) and it sits on a stack of four phonebooks, to be a right height (he's tall).

I'd replace it with this: http://www.amazon.com/PA248Q-1920x1200-DisplayPort-Ergonomic-Back-lit/dp/B008DWH00K/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1449749570&sr=1-2&keywords=monitor+ips&refinements=p_36%3A25000-30000%2Cp_89%3ALG%7CAsus%2Cp_n_size_browse-bin%3A3547806011%7C3547805011%7C3547807011

It's nothing too special, but Its 24" (which is a world of space for people not used to immersive gaming and ALL the multitasking), IPS (a must factor for me now), fully adjustable (especially the scope of height) and is 1200 x 1920, so a little bit larger than 16:9 for a squarer aspect ratio - something I'm sure he would find comforting in a more modern monitor. I know he goes squeamish over my 21:9 whenever he sees it...

(on a more practical note, it gives more vertical space for web browsing and word processing, the two main things he does anyway).

It would help his eyes, help his back, and make the whole computer that much more accessable and usable for everyone else.

Good luck to everyone.

I'd get my Dad a SSD. He's got a good PC, but his hard drive is soooo slow. It wouldn't be any trouble for him to use since it would work seamlessly when installed. He would greatly appreciate the extra speed.
