I don't know about you, but this is a pretty beefy as hell cooler. Looks to me like it's the same design philosophy as the Sapphire cooler and seems equally as large.

I would go with XFX in this case, it's not worth the extra price for the Sapphire.

I mean, if I were in your shoes, I would probably wait until I had enough for the sapphire, but... objectively I would say that the XFX is worth the price difference.

Honestly, if you're looking to buy one of these, I wouldn't. 980 TI is better when it comes to performance and overclocking. When you compare like 10 top GPUs then Sapphire R9 Fury and all other Fury cards are going to be in the middle of the chart. 

 

Sapphire is 1040Mhz as far as I'm aware and not very overclockable. The XFX R9 Fury got good temps but 980TI still beats it when it comes to performance. They're known to coil whine. Example:

After researching the Fury on the internet and previously having one myself, I'm pretty safe to say they're not worth it.

 

$900 for 980TI fair enough, but I think it's worth to add some extra money in my opinion. However, it depends how he is going to use the card and what he'll use it for. Perhaps, Fury might be worth it, but it depends what it's used for.

Except from everyone else who's had one... apparently they're plenty worth it. I don't want to submit myself to NVIDIA's schemes further. I fell for it once, never again. I guarantee you the Fury will suddenly perform like a 980 Ti a few months after Pascal is out. Also I'd prefer not to be forced to use Geforce Experience bloatware to install my damn drivers.

That driver support though, much better to stick to newer cards. And SLI/Crossfire will never be as good as a single card as long as support for multiple GPUs sucks the way it does.

That is correct, but for the price given I'd rather stick to 780 TI SLI than Fury, unless prices are nicer. Hypothetically, if AMD releases drivers that will make the overclocked Fury as fast as overclocked 980 TI then I would buy it, but for me it counts what I'd get right now for the price. I'm not a fan of guessing what will happen in the future to be honest.

No, it's not worth it at all. If you could choose freely, go for Sapphire, but if you've got to pay 70$ for it more then get XFX, it's also great.

Most definitely not. My 2nd rig is running 2x 780 TI in SLI and I'm definitely not complaining. Never bought a card without looking at benchmarks first, and now I'm pretty happy with what I have two years later.

My comment was directed at your assumption that driver support and it's chaotic nature had anything to do with brand. I have plenty of friends with Nvidia cards that have had issues with drivers, comes down to the games you play. I just downloaded the newest Crimson driver, no idea how it reacts to Fallout 4, I know the Bethesda beta patch runs like a square wheel barrow. Speaking of Crimson it's been especially good to the Fury line, like damn has it been good. Those drivers have the Fury's outperforming everything, at stock clocks. Can driver let you overclock, hell yeah. My 290 (rest it's soul) bounced around depending on the driver where it was happy. As much as 100mhz difference, which for a Radeon could translate to 10fps depending on the task.

 

So chill out and let go of Nvidia's, jewels. Both the Fury and the 980 are good cards. OP wants a Fury and they're smart enough to get a Sapphire.
