Should I dump money into a prebuilt?

Go to solution Solved by nickthequick,

the pc I have http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03614835

So, I want to get into pc gaming, but I have a limited budget. How many games struggle to run on a dualcore cpu nowadays?

What I plan to put in the system http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/WnXL3C

If anyone has a cheaper psu solution that's not a cx or whatever please post it. I can't justify spending $85 on a psu for this computer. and if you can cheaper anything else, that'd be nice too.

Note that this is in CAD

I have the pc already. It's running a 3320, so it's not new

NO! PLEASE DON'T!

On second thoughts, maybe. But you shouldn't have to spend that much on a PSU...also AMD may have more desirable offerings for the same price.

It is very easy to build a system and there are plenty of people willing to help you get the most bang for your buck here.

Network Administrator, Comptia A+, Security+, Cisco Certified Networking Associate

From a G3258 to dual Xeon E5-2670's

If your going for a pre-built then at least buy it from people that build it for you rather then from a company with shitty OEM parts.

With that said, it looks more like your upgrading your computer.. I which case do as you wish. The parts looks decent I... Guess? I don't spend much time with budget parts because I find them useless.

The pc is 2 years old, I'm upgrading not buying.

I think you should make that clearer in the title.

Not what I meant, I meant in the title of the post, the one that appears on the rest of the forum and at the top of the page/tab.

What you updated was the post itself.

Actually, that's not bad.

I almost shot for a GTX 960 but I realized that the price difference, or lack of, would be worth jumping to a 380 for.

U should have titled it a bit differently because it is very misleading

That won't bottleneck? I was making a build with an 860k with that gpu and I thought it was going to bottleneck.

How? I have a prebuilt, and I want to upgrade it. and it's a question. I really don't see how it's a misleading title.

You should really have the title set as "Should I dump money into upgrading a prebuilt?"

The X4 860k would bottleneck R9 390s and higher and their respective NVIDIA counterparts.
