Meh, that board can't even do 3-way SLI.

This one can and it's cheaper too. It has a PLX chip for added PCIe lanes so you can run 2-way SLI at x16/x16 instead of x8/x8. Can go up to 4-way SLI.

This must be photoshopped as I thought the only ROG acceptable colorscheme was black and red. This is clearly black and orange. So obviously it must mean the person photoshopping the image was colorblind and failed to make it look like a real maximus mobo with the required black and red gamer colorscheme.

Obvious sarcasm aside, I'm really excited that Asus is FINALLY using a colorscheme that isn't black and red. I am exited to see the orange themed builds using this motherboard that people come up with. Even though it will be prohibitively too expensive for many people to buy, maybe Asus will use this colorscheme with their cheaper offerings in the future. Oh and the technology in it is cool I guess...

@LinusTech have you been talking to Asus about LTT branded motherboards in secret?

This is freaking beautiful but I've said it before, anything more than $200/£150 on a motherboard and your just lining the shareholders pockets.

ATX and E-ATX for normal computers need to GTFO and join the fossils they belong with, still waiting for a decent M-ATX board this generation. One might not ever come.

OCF-M comes out december, the Gene is a monster board as well.

I've always liked bigger boards though, but I tend to SLI sometimes, and I don't like the lack of airflow that comes with Matx.

The Gene is the closest to something I would buy, but it makes the critical mistake of being a board that costs over 2000 NOK and has only 1 Gigabit Ethernet port.

It's also black and red, so I'd literally only buy it after completely giving up hope on something better coming out.

I'm having the same issue you are. I'm on the lookout for a <$150 USD all black mATX Z170 board that uses and Intel NIC. I'd also be willing to pay a bit more for on-board WiFi and Alpine Ridge.

Someone should honestly release a series of boards at <$150 that all feature the exact same feature set/power delivery, and just make an ATX, mATX and mITX. Or at least ATX and mATX, because you can keep the topology the same on those, and just take off a few SATA and PCIe ports/slots.

You're probably not going to find something in matx fashion with more than 1 gigabit port, the general consumer buying those boards are probably not concerned with it or requesting board makers to put them on, so I doubt we'll see it.

Z170 Oc Formula mATX version won't either, as the Gene & OCFM are more centered around overclocking features.

If the cheapest X99 mATX board (AsRock X99M Extreme4) has two Gb ethernet ports, it's not unreasonable to expect the same from the most expensive Z170 board (one that is more expensive than said AsRock board to boot)

And the AsRock board still has more power phases and not being more cheaply made in any other areas, so it's not like they have an excuse.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

Because x99 is meant for workstations, z170 isn't. If there is no demand for extra ethernet ports then they have no reason to include them.

There is demand, as evident of the workstation boards for all previous Z-chipsets from a number of vendors. And there's no reason to think workstation class features shouldn't be on smaller form factors, especially when the platform has fewer true PCIe lanes on offer. PLX PEX chips just introduce latency anyway.
