MSIs sexy new Z170A SLI Plus ditches the black & red theme

Minimalist blackout? I could make a gorgeous build with that idea in mind.

 

Mind you, if you try you can make great looking systems with (most) any modern motherboard out there.

 

From a pure aesthetic perspective, my most intriguing z170 boards are the Asrock OC formula, and the XPower Titanium (I know, it sounds tacky, but I feel certain I could actually make it work.)

 

Alas, I don't know anyone who needs an upgrade right now, so I don't get a chance to flex and build.

 

 

I just don't like stuff that looks bland and plain, it's part of the reason I cannot stand white & black builds, they almost always look ridiculously bland and "meh"

I suppose if you used the board and did a different color scheme it'd look nice though.

I was thinking a dark rock cooler (or black aio with black fans lol) actually, but that would look better.

 

BTW if you are randomly wondering... The x61 can't come close to black. Like not even remotely close (black is a wierd grungy purple). But hey, that's what plasti-dip is for.

I have a black painted 212 evo that I made a while back, I only painted the top bit that you can see, it looks reallly nice. 

 

My PC looks so butthole right now, because it's sitting on insulation foam with no case ever since I did DICE the other day.   I am to lazy to put it back in my case and put all the blocks back on

Second 980ti comes in Thursday, am stoked. No idea why I bought it even... I don't need the extra performance... Well time to use DSR lol.

Eww... But no.. I'm already at 1440p as well, but what else am I going to do with a second 980ti that ofc I'll overclock? I mean even witcher 3 with settings that make sense works fine at 1440p with one of these...

 

I honestly don't know what else to do but run 4k DSR instead.

 

But hopefully you got some good benches out of it.

Yeah managed to get an XTU run at 5.3 ghz on the core and 5.2 ghz on the cache, with memory at 2800 9-12-12-17 1T.  And that was with a bad mount too!  I didn't mount the pot well enough, temps were going 40c even though my LN2 pot was -60c 

 

Was 1371 points, my score was high enough to be competing with people on LN2 at 5.5+ ghz

I like this color scheme, was getting tired of the black and red.

 

I am tied between this board and the Z170 Asus has, not the maximus line the ws board.

I am quickly becoming a fan of both MSI and ASUS even though I have like ASUS for some time.

 

Before that I was a AOPen fan, they had the best board there was. (that was a long time ago though) 

 

 

Any way back on topic. Its a nice board. I will keep it in mind when I consider future builds.

The SLI series has always been black, since it was introduced in X99.

 

It could never ditch black and red because it was never black and red to begin with.

Nope, this is a brand new product they launched recently and it is a gaming board.

this isn't a gaming board, it's just a z170 version of the X99A SLI board which is a workstation board. also not new either as I said, just a z170 version of a previous board.
