I would imagine. The computer I took apart was a bunch of wires and I didn't know what I was even looking at...

Ok, I was wrong.  Check to make sure you have the Power Switch sockets on the right pins... on the #6 and #8 pins.

Alternatively you can short the 6 and 8 by bridging them with something metal.  This will also start up the PC.  This will determine if the case's cables (or switch) are faulty.

NADA!

Start with the basics... reseat every connection.  Pull them out and pop them back in.

I know you have a power light on the Mobo showing, but check that the PSU switch is in the on position.

This is the third time I pulled it out. and assembled it.

I feel something is being overlooked

I am just hoping it is not a hardware failure.  When you fitted the CPU cooler (before you got the CPU), did you leave the socket cover on?  If not, bent pins are no joke.   I would take the CPU out and check carefully.

From the manual:

Verify the Clear CMOS jumper JBAT1 is set to Keep DATA.

lol-

there was a plastic cover over the cpu socket.  a protective coating over the fan connection and the CPU cooler was held on with half a thread on top left and bottom right.

id bet elsewhere

Since shorting the 6/8 did not work, a logical assumption would be that it is either a problem with the PSU or motherboard.

Only if you have a spare PSU lying around.

I would contact MSI directly and tell them your issue and what you have tried.

I am confused. The pictures do not show a cpu cooler installed. Is that the case? If so, do not pass go, do not collect $200. Install the cpu cooler.

Once the cpu cooler is installed, remove all front panel connections. You should be able to start the system by very carefully momentarily shorting the power button pins (6 & 8) on JFP1 with a slot screwdriver.

Is that a safety measure?  Not having the CPU PWM fan slot occupied results in a null power up?

although this may of been good to know before trying- I've already tried.

a CPU cooler isn't part of the barebones- is it? It will result in no power being allowed?

I don't know enough about your motherboard. What I do know is that even with the thermal protection built into the cpu, one risks damage with no cooler attached. Don't worry about what cannot be changed, just install the cooler.

battery wasn't in.

Comes from factory just... sitting in there? I guess.. not secured..

I tried a "hard reboot" as you do with other tech... killed it brain.. went to take the battery out.. to find out it wasn't in.
