PC build -

LargestGnome

Hello everyone, my name is Tyler.

I am more of one who enjoy the operations from within' the PC - my interest does not lay within' the hardware.

So after watching Linus on YouTube for a fair amount of time, I've turned my trust to you folks.  ;)

Following the template as requested;

1. Budget & Location

My budget is 'open' so to speak; I am only 21 but make decent money ranging from $700-1500 take home a week depending on hours worked. No children or house payment - with that being said; I'd still like to keep it in a modest range... as my gaming and rendering hobbies have tapered down to a near halt, I'd say $400-700 USD - tower only. I've yet to play any graphically enhanced games, so even a $500 PC I'd imagine would destroy any of my C# renderings... or masking friends faces onto objects of choice.

2. Aim

Oops, covered it in second one being a rambler.

3. Monitors

I have a single BenQ GL2460 at the moment. Upon getting a larger desk and building this- I'll be looking into a dual monitor setup of later decidings.

4. Peripherals

Negative; Already got the fancy light up options.

5. Why are you upgrading?

I want to spend money, I've been saving after paying off all my debt (being $11k) - and want to treat myself; I've already boughten a substage for my vehicle and now a computer. It's a reward system I've implemented to drive my goals. And by the looks I'll have my extra 10k in savings by new year- SO; new toy!

I've been using my Satellite 2855 for nearly two years now and believe it could be relieved of it's duties for a dual monitor setup.

Gracias in advance for any tips and pointers one might provide.

So a $700 dollar build? Can you up it slightly?

*shrug*

don't matter too much.. come next week It's back.

just really depends the true comparison on say $700 vs $800..

I just wasted $2100 on subwoofers.

...what am I doing with my life?

Is there an investment forum on here? Just being lazy and like social interaction. ^__^

yes. bump if it's huuge.

BUT! like I had mentioned- It doesn't see huge use.

The only game I've played in the last two years is League of Legends [ kinda quiting it now leaving me with NO games I play]

and I used to make C#/JS/Java projects but tappered away from it as I moved into other hobbies.. I will return to them shortly  I'd think as I'm not working 84hours a week anymore at the refinery ^__^

okay. let's see an $800 build.. or $805.. or $806.. or whatever..

Sound like you don't really need a discreet gpu. The motherboard supports multiple monitor interfaces and will support up to 3 monitors.

The psu has sufficient capacity for a GTX 750 Ti or R9 380 gpu should a discreet gpu become necessary.

I'll have to look into GPUs.. but at first glance a 8GB card seems... hm.

perhaps I'd tone it down and add a large SSD

One of you recommended no GPU the other recommends a beast.

8GB of vRAM is a really good future proofing measure. You can tone down the GPU and get a larger SSD though.

no sir- upon reviewing roughly 4 outsources- it all seems to be on par and was enough of a sale pitch.

Do you by any chance know of any open air cases/holding.. unit.. type thing.? Me being one who I am - Investing in these cool pieces of technology don't want to hide them behind a metal case!

Are they functional? Any benefit? or only negatives of having your components exposed

WAIT.

air borne particles are... the major draw back huh?

Dusty..

Nevermind, perhaps not the most practical thing.

so in regards to this suggestion I might go forward with it-

I will swap cases as it just isn't my style.. I'd prefer "less"

What are the high points when looking for a case.. just pick any 4.5/5 ATX full and move on?

I was deciding if I should get a new PC or not- then upon downloading 2 items, 6 tabs open I bogged down. Stinky HDD...

I know my intentions were not clear- but as work slows down when winters come through my interest will shift back into renderings of sorts- I'd like to think I'd try to make time to create some entry level games.

Obviously look for a design that you like, choose a nice and big case to start with a nice ATX mid tower should be fine.

I'll modify the list I gave you, hang on.

can you explain to me the choice of changing recommended GPU? You have cut from 8gb to 4- I was just about to place my order.

:-P

also- Mistakeningly I had added this to my order

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231666

I see the one I had added.. has higher latency- surely these are micro measurements.. but is it time between command given and response? Lower the better, eh?

You said you're not gonna be gaming much, if you're not playing at higher resolutions then a better CPU for rendering will be a better option. It depends though, how much gaming will you do? Do you wanna max out settings as much as possible? If so, use the build I suggested previously.

it will be a real hairline call on what is used most. I'd say gaming preformance over rendering times though, as my peers will be likely to play games on it.

Very little difference. You won't get the crashing issue like that dude got as he was probably just unlucky, of course, I'm pretty sure you can get a refund if a problem arises within the first two weeks of ownership.

Hey buddy,

think if I got that i7 along with a R9 390 I'd be worry free for years to come?

I'm okay with my price coming in at $1,200..

I mean yes, technically that i7 gives you Hyperthreading (doubles your "cores" for the OS) and it certainly makes your rig that much more powerful but it depends. Do you see yourself upgrading some components in the PC every year or two? Or do you want to just build it all now and not have to touch it for a while?
